Another Rigged contest

In the first Times cricket podcast of the season it was Bella Emberg who received the admiration of our studio pundits and this week we turn our appreciation of Great British Actresses to Dame Diana Rigg, whose appearance in The Cherry Orchard at Chichester on Saturday went some way to making up for that day's play at Lord's being rained off.

Oh and we talk to Matthew Hoggard about which of his England team-mates he needs to kneecap to get back in the side and to Mike Gatting, as he is pursued around the Isle of Dogs by the Met Police, about how Mark Ramprakash is cricket's version of a Chateau Petrus '47. Hm, scratch that. A revised calculation, taking into account not-outs in the range 100-6 (since those don't count as chances to make 107) puts Hanif Mohammad - Pakistan's first cricketing superstar - in first place.

Further to your discussion in the much-loved stats section of the podcast, I have calculated whether or not Michael Vaughan is the big choker we all suspect him to be - that's right, that he fails to make the big 107 that England so often desperately need. Is Michael Vaughan the worst at converting centuries into 107s?

I will say this: an England captain does prove to be the worst, depending on how you measure it. And the best? Well, surprisingly it's not Bradman. Nor is it Hammond, like you thought, Patrick.

You can see the calculations and the full results here: http://www.thirteenthman.com/posts/the-elusive-107/

Regards.
