Video: Ajantha Mendis in action

Mike Atherton wrote this excellent piece this morning about Sri Lanka's new wunderkind, Ajantha Mendis, who he claims is the world's new Mystery Spinner.

Have a look at him in this video below and see if you can pick him...

Take a look at how he destroyed india's star studded batting line up! Mendis is now the leading wicket taker in ODIs for 2008!

Kumble didnt have a wrong-un that has bamboozled so many.

DEAR AJANTHA MENDIS

THE GOD HAS GIVEN YOU A SPECIAL TALENT. PLEASE GET THE BEST OUT OF IT.

I think that ajanta mendis is would have been a fantastic bowler in the past because batsman wouldn't have been able to see television replays, however nowadays they can. So i don't think he'll be as effective but still good and especially good at bowling to tail-enders because they won't be able to pick him. Personally i think batsman shouldn't be allowed to look at the T.V replays of mendis because it's almost cheating!

Isnt he like Anil Kumble? When Anil started, he was being played like a spinner, when many realised he could be played like a medium pacer, it was relatively easy. However, Kumble is Kumble, and he worked on his technique. His repertoire got better and so did the wickets he got. Mendis is excellent though.
