D'Oliveira never captained England. In fact, he wasn't even selected originally for the cancelled tour that you refer to and was added only when, I think, Roger Prideaux and Tom Cartwright were injured, but Colin Cowdrey was always the planned captain both for that tour and the one to Pakistan that replaced it.

Pat - Question 1 Wasn't Basil D'Olivera a South African and Capt of England on the famous tour to South Africa which was cancelled due to politics and the tour went onto Pakistan instead?
