Did Collingwood get the worst umpiring decision of the year?

11_12_2008_110442_timsport_cricket0

Paul Collingwood was the victim of a truly terrible umpiring decision by Billy Bowden in Madras today, as India fought back after tea following England's steady start in the first Test.

The Durham all-rounder was attempting to rebuild the innings after two quick wickets when the Kiwi inexplicably gave him out caught at short leg by Gautam Gambhir off Harbhajan Singh when TV replays clearly demonstrated the ball had deflected off his pad and missed his bat and glove by a good six inches.

With Collingwood rightly aggrieved and his team under pressure, we have to ask how a top-flight umpire can make such a mistake, one that perhaps could prevent England reaching the commanding first innings total they so desperately need.

Have a look at our screen-grabs of the incident below and tell us if you've seen a worse decision this year.

It will live long in the memory of anyone who saw it and recalls other famous duels in cricketing history.
