Does attacking Cameron's background work?

Hazel Blears, launching the Labour campaign in Liverpool (where the Liberal Democrats may lose control) attacks Cameron's backround. Does this work, and more importantly would it attract Lib Dem voters?

"But you know, I don’t think David Cameron really gets it. I don’t think he’s really in touch with the lives of hard-working people. He’s never worried about the mortgage. Or not been able to afford a holiday. He doesn’t even like football, whether red or blue. When David Cameron came up to Bury, he met a stall-holder on Bury market selling black pudding. He tasted a bit, and asked what the flavouring was. And then he asked ‘is it oregano?’

"Of course the stall-holder said ‘no’. Oregano? In black pudding? I’ve never had a black pudding with oregano in it. I think when the elections come on 1st May, voters across the northwest will make their views on David Cameron very clear…"

Sounds very much to me like a reworking of the Peter Mandelson story concerning mushy peas & guacamole.

Can Ms Blears produce the stallholder's name to validate her tale? I think she should be asked how she came by this story.
Mind you if we're talking out of touch what about our PM who can't drive & the consequences of the car tax hike & fuel duty rip off? He doesn't get it.

Entirely agree with G.Adlam - exactly the same thought crossed my mind. And at least the guacomole jibe was quite funny and a little bit plausible. But black pudding tasting of oregano? What witless idiot dreamt that one up?

So, the black pudding in Bury tastes of oregano, then? One to avoid, I think.

Maybe it was past its sell by date - very similar to La Blears.

'Conservative Party Reptile' notes that a Spanish black pudding contains oregano.

Here is another recipe, which I take to be English, also containing oregano.

It makes me wonder how many a concerted search by the blogosphere might find.

A generic recipe simply states herbs and spices - so all Ms Blears remarks highlight is her parochialism, not good for the principle of international socialism.

Will she apologise perhaps?
