« Shakespeare is less important than healthy eating classes, emotional needs lessons and sex education - Labour MP | All Posts | Digging in: just the picture Gordon must have wanted »

Who forgot to mention Gordon doesn't like sushi?

After this morning's warnings about food wastage, lets hope Gordon's cleaning his plate in Hokkaido. But - aarg - tonight's G8 summit menu (hat tip Guido), cooked by one of Japan's Michelin Star chefs, contains food GB doesn't like. Specifically "diced fatty fles of tuna fish, avocado and jellied soy sauce and Japanese herb 'shiso'" and other raw fish/rice combinations. Last time the Prime Minister - a fan of more basic English fare like chips - had Japanese food he was less than impressed and didn't touch it.

Will they a) organise a special children's-style menu for GB? b) risk him sending it back and hoping nobody notices, or c) endure his bad mood if he eats it.

At times like this, you realise why Porky Prescott was appointed deputy prime minister. He was there to fill his face with free meals and then waddle over to the loo afterwards.

Maybe they could fuse Gordon's native fare with that of his hosts - Mars bar tempura, anybody?

As a sushi lover, I would be very disappointed with this menu, there's almost no raw fish on it!! I think GB would have found plenty to eat.

Wether he likes it or not, perhaps it would be seemly to make sure he eats it all and doesn't waste any.

I wonder if they'll be covering the issues regarding poverty and how so many live their lives hungry while they launch into a menu that probably costs more "per head" than many spend on food in a month! Since when did representing your people and country end up being the ticket to such gluttony?

Would have thought the menu was classified. Most western world leaders attending a conference in Hokkaido learn less than nothing about Japan. They come away still mispronouncing Japanese words, with the same sense of entitlement that comes with the certainty of being from the superior culture. Japanese frequently ask, "Can you eat Japanese food?" Rather than, “This is our food. Try some”. If the thought of ethnic food, or the notion that you can't get British food fills you with dread, then you are just not ex-pat material. And if you get too candy-***ed about the climate, you are nailing you feet to the ground.

Shame they didn't get the poorly-prepared fugu. Then we'd be shot of this dire crew.

Nothing on that menu would be wasted in our home, though I would have like to have seen video's of each members plates at end of each course so we could throw their wastefull comments back at them. I never say no to exotic foods when sold off cheap at supermarket when it reaches sell by date, nothing ever gets wasted as we eat all we buy, an odd snack that you are not to keen on does you no harm, just think of the worlds poor they would fight for it, we also get a chance to try things we could never ever afford to buy, it's the best thing about christmas and easter when they have a clearout, any they fail to sell should attract a tax of 25% of full selling price then rather than throw it they would do 5p bundles at last minute, the poor should love that. ARE YOU LISTENING DARLING & BROWN.

I hope McTwat makes the best of this opportunity to enjoy this £500,000 meal. It may be the last free meal he gets...

Hmmm. They may have a Michelin-starred chef, but it looks like they missed out on a Michelin-starred sommelier - Chateau Latour Burgundy anyone?

Now we know what to send Mr Bean for xmas

As long as he doesn't have a second glass of wine, that would be binge drinking.

Tells something of his intelligence and flexibility. What does he like? Boiled tomatoes and russian eggs?
