PR Week's Miliband organogram...

Miliband_organogramWell this will ruffle feathers. PR Week and David Singleton, whose famed Downing Street organogram marked the start of months of stories about Number 10, have put together another guide to those around David Miliband.

It suggests he has wider political - and financial - backing than previously known.

Expect some hurried denials - Tom Watson will no doubt push back strongly* at being described as having "switched his support" to Miliband. And some names will be missing - Peter Hyman, Blair's former speechwriter for instance, springs to mind.

But it means someone is causing trouble around Miliband....

*And hit back he has, with a personal invitation to meet David Singleton

The principal beneficiary of the original Downing St organogram story was Stephen Carter. Who was on very good terms with PR Week in his previous role as CEO of Brunswick. Cue a succession of stories in PR Week favourable to Stephen Carter. And now this.

It is inspired, but an obvious Downing Street plant. It makes Miliband look presumptuous - as if he is measuring the curtains at Number Ten before there is even a vacancy. And it paints him as an uber-Blairite - identifying him with all the people in the party who are guaranteed to lose him a leadership election. So I think we can discount the possibility that the story came from Team Miliband.

The Brownites are a factional lot, and this just goes to show they are set on destroying Miliband just as they have destroyed Brown's earlier enemies.

Organogram? Onanigram, more like.

David Singleton has aired a rumour and presenting it as a fact on the same page.
