No lunch on Wednesday

The highlight of the week, Harriet Harman's conference speech, looks likely to be brought forward from 2.45pm on Wednesday by an hour or two. No doubt this is because Gordon Brown wants to hear what his deputy has to say, before flying to America. And not, as one conference organiser suggested, because they feared everyone would abandon Manchester at lunchtime.
