My final post: good bye, everyone
Hi everyone,
This is my last blog post from Wimbledon. I have to be realistic and I don't think I will be able to do it tomorrow. On Monday I am flying early in the morning to Stuttgart and tomorrow win or lose it will be impossible to do it. If I win (please, please) I will be going to the winners party/dinner that the club organizes and logically I won't have time. If I lose then I will be packing everything (got a lot of luggage, as always) and I will be together with my family. In any case I have an early flight on Monday morning.
Coming to today, it has been quite a busy morning. I practiced for 2 hours. Initially it was going to be a smoother practice but I wasn't feeling that great hitting the ball and decided to practice a bit more with my uncle Toni and a player from Menorca called Nacho Coll. I know him for some time, he is in the Balearic Tennis Centre and he is around to pay some future events. I use to hit with him sometimes when we are in Mallorca. After that I had a lot of media obligations with Press Conference, TV interviews and a get together with the Spanish media that follow me around the different tournaments.
In the afternoon I just stayed at the house with my family, my team, playing cards, playing darts and some play station. Quite and relaxed day just not thinking about tomorrow. Over dinner my uncle Toni and I talked a bit about tomorrow's match and on how to play. What you call a tactics chat. This is the way we do it. Sometimes Toni gives me some advices, some things to think about. He preferred to share those things tonight so I can think about them instead of tomorrow morning when the match is closer. We don't have a fixed procedure and today it as like this.
My parents went out for dinner with their friends and we stayed at home. Apart from Toni, also Rafa Maymo, Tuts, my sister, my uncle Rafael, and Benito. We cooked one of those dishes of pasta with shrimps and mushrooms and stayed calm.
To finish with this, I wanted now to thank this paper for having me doing this blog and you specially for following it, reading it and hopefully enjoy some of the things I say. My job is not to write but to play tennis and that's what I do better. Definitely writing is not my best thing. I suppose you noticed it.
Many thanks again and hope to do this again soon

Congrats Rafa on all your accomplishments to date. I have been following you since your first French open and I'm in love ever since even though since your Wimbledon win there is a separation between my sister and I as she is a Feds girl and is upset by his lost and I constantly remind her who the #1 player is at least in my book. Congrats on winning gold in Beijing and tomorrow you will officially be the No.1 player in the world, a title that you deserved and worked hard to achieve, step aside Federer, you are finally de-throned & let king Rafa reign. I cant wait to see you in New York at the US Open when you will finally sink your teeth into that trophy. God's blessings be with you, uncle Tony and the rest of your family. I'll be watching you, and counting as the trophies add up and of course shouting,Va mus!!!!! :)

Hello Rafa from Douala, Cameroon!!
CONGRATULATIONS Rafa!!! I'm a former local tennis champ, now airline pilot (the only female pilot) from Cameroon. You ARE such a champion. Your hunger and determination to win are simply amazing. You wanted that Wimbledon win, man, and you got it. You deserve it. You are such an inspiration. My new inspiration line is: "Want it and go for it like Rafa went for that wimbledon victory". Phew... I am still rejoicing. I have been in high spirits ever since sunday...coupled with the adrenaline of flying, I am in heaven. Thanks, Rafa!!!! Mi campeon para siempre...Hope to fly you someday!!!

What an inspiration, Tennis has never been so exciting. I knew you would do it, just a question of when. Although the 7 hours of toture were hard on us, it made it so much sweeter when you did finally break through and win Wimbledon. We danced a cat-scaring jig of delight! A full challenge of your skill and will.
I loved that you stayed optimistic right through the last 2 sets to arrive at the final point. I have been smiling for days since. Enjoy some long summer days, and enjoy your moment in history.
Bravo bella Rafael.

Hello, Raphael.
Yet another congratulations on your hard-fought, well-deserved victory at Wimbledon. I can't wait to see you play again and again.
I, like so many others, KNEW that it was your time. Mind you, you had us all holding our breaths until the last set!!
I'm left handed but play (squash) right. I'm no good at all, but have a good back-hand smash. I watch yours in the slow-motion replays and try to pick up any little hints that I can. Thanks, coach! Squash is a different game but same strategy. Racquets rule!
Please look after your knee! Please! I have seen a couple of my chums "sidelined" permanently due to knee problems. It's a good idea, I think, to bow out of Stutggart and focus on the other tourneys coming up later this summer. All the best, champion.

Congratulations Rafa!!
I have been waiting for this win since Wimbledon 2006, and this time you did it! Your tennis style is exceptional, unique and superior. You came through despite Federer's relentless defence! Outside tennis, you set an example of determination, hard work and belief against all odds. You truly personified the words of Rudyard Kipling's poem that you and Fererer read together! well done, keep advancing, and i truly hope to meet you in person one day.
I am a humble tennis player, and you will always remain my idol.
Much love, Bushra

THought the match was absolutely fantastic. Not normally such a tennis fan you had me glued to the television for 5 hours. I was routing for you last year and this year I was as so wound up cheering you on. You played a superb game though the 3 missed match points nearly killed me. You won with dignity and grace unlike the darker comments of Federer. Congratulations Julie Wales

CONGRATS, Rafa!! Your game stepped up a level during the clay season (& the hoagie) & we knew Wimby could be yours!! I'm so proud of you! I'm still flying... 2 days later! And you made SI's cover--! :-) What an amazing accomplishment and now tennis is hot again--this time for something GOOD! xoxo

What a final!!
A thoroughly deserved win for Nadal! He positively radiates passion for what he does, whereas the only time I seem to feel emotion from Federer is after a match has been won or lost. Federer is of course a champion, but I can't relate to him at all. I can also deeply empathise with Nadal's knee issues - I have bad knees myself.

What a game! Truely the best sporting event I have ever seen. The match was so evenly balanced, intense and just brilliant. Your determination and focus Rafa is legendary. Unbelievable! Good luck for the rest of the year and becoming world No 1.Vamos

The sw19 final was the best match i hace ever seen and I think that both you and Roger were amazing. I hope you rest well and enjoy relaxing for a while because you deserve it! ......ds

Congratulations! - I'm about 4 times your age, and my tennis was never very good. But I enjoy watching and following it. You are the best, and I trust, will be for many years to come.
SALUD RAFA !

I agree w/ all the comments about the match... so great, so intense, each one of the players showing their awesome strenths; both physically and mentally. That game is a marvelous example of what purity in sports and competition must be called.
But the greatest of all is far beyond from a sportive score: is the sportmanship betwen rivals carried to it´s highest level. The way they both think of and talk about each other anytime they have the opportunity to do so is a trully pure example that it is possible to be at the top of a sport and, however, keep the humble and the admiration for the rival.
And for Rafa; seing you on TV collapsing on the grass w/ your eyes teary, and a few moments later climbing towards your family to hug them first, forgetting any traditional "protocol" says it all about you.
Your achievements in tennis are making you Great... but, as a person, you exceed any milestone.
Congrats for Basque Country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Rafa,
Your victory at Wimbledon was phenomenal.
The way you and Federer played -and spoke after the match- should be a lesson not just to other sports players but also to all of us out here.
Thank you for your blog too ... it put a smile on my face. (Thank you too for learning English).
You are an inspiration.
Congratulations to you, your family and team.

Rafa Rafa Rafa!! I never had (or wanted) a hero before but now I have you :-)
Really, I feel honoured to have witnessed such an amazing tennis match as the Wimbledon final. I lived through every point played, and I was worn out by the end (though not as much as you). You Sooooo deserved that victory, I cannot tell you how much more than ever before I enjoyed the Championship this year because of you. You seem such a humble, polite and a little bit shy person ( a bit like myself) and that is why I love you even more! Go Go Rafa! xxxx

CONGRATULATIONS RAFA!!! I hope you can still take time to read this. Here in the Philippines your match started past 9 pm and the awarding ended almost 4:50 am on our clock. ABSOLUTELY EPIC!!! I never really was a sports fan but after watching you and Federer I understood why people are crazy about sports. You and Federer have so much determination to win...talk about an unmatched competitive rivalry. Me and my brother rooted for you all the way!!! I was really nervous during the 5th set and when you won I felt like I won also!!! I was amazed when you climbed the guest box. I admire how you showed gratitude to your family and supporters. This really is your year, you know, with all your blessings from God. One thing more, I always read your blog...and you were wrong saying it wasn't really good...so long as you remain natural and stay true to yourself writing it...we all truly love it...CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN AND GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS!!!

Aloha Rafa,
You've made history not just because you won but because you brought tennis—and indeed all sport—up to a higher level. I set my alarm for 3AM so I could watch every point of your match and was spellbound like the rest of the world for almost seven hours. Your fighting spirit, kindness, graciousness and humility make you a class act as a tennis player and as a human being. Your family has raised you right and your love for each other is clearly present. It was so touching when you hugged your mom and dad after you won.I think anyone who watched that could not have a dry eye. Your parents, all of Spain and all the world is so proud of you!
Thank you for taking the time to blog. I enjoyed reading your posts a lot. We would love you to keep writing!
Aloha from Kona Hawaii, (and please come to practice at our beautiful resorts this winter on the way to the Australian. We would love to see you here!)

Hello from Australia Rafa!
First of all Congratulations for winning Wimbledon. A dream come true for you and for me. It was my first time in Wimbledon. The journey from Australia altho' quite long was worth it after I've seen you on Court one and Centre Court. I have been a fan of yours since I first saw you at the Australian Open when you were not seeded yet.
I was on the plane to Sydney on Sunday when the Finals was happening.
I'm glad that you have this blog .I will be reading it from now on. What a great idea. I watch you religiously on tv. It does not matter if it's not a grand slam. You are a wonderful tennis player and a wonderful person. Te Amo.

I remember going to the center court and no.1 every now and then, when I lived in Wimbledon and have seen some of the big name tennis players like Rod laver, Newcombe, Emerson, Ken Rosewell, Tony Roche, Billy jean, Stan Smith, the Pounding server, and recollect my memory of being in the court for longest and classic set ever played in Wimbledon (the first day of play between Pancho Gonzalez and Charlie Pasarell). However, I was awestruck by the quality of the tennis Roger and you have placed before the eyes of the millions around the globe. It is so unfortunate that I could not have been in the center court to experience one of the greatest moment of human history, although enjoyed every moment of it watching it in TV for over 5 hours, while sitting tense in the living room of my California home. It was unbelievable tennis never seen before, and both of you have made people to believe and proven that 'there are Tennis players and there are players who play Tennis and there is a major difference between these 2 categories". Your courage, tenacity, fighting spirit should be a lesson for others. I consider you to be a sculptor like Michael Angelo and Roger, a great gifted artist with unique calibre. Both of you are the prime figures in the new era of tennis-A renaissance. Viva Rafa. Let's have more of this beautiful tennis to be proud of.

You're the best, you're growing more and more every year. I know will see you soon as the No. 1, as you won the running of winning Wimbledon, before Roger defeating the denyded clay of your own "feudo" at Roland Garros.
What a year, what a month for Spain!!!, first the Euro, and now you conquering Wimbledon.

I am a Roger fan but after following your game this year in French open, I knew and I told all my friends that Nadal will take the French (with ease) but will also end Federar's reign over Wimbledon this year.
Great Rafa. It is once a lifetime opportunity to see that kind of Wimbledon’s final. Though it ate my whole Sunday (9AM - 4PM), it was worth spending it that way :-)
Best of luck for your remaining season.

CONGRATULATIONS RAFA!!!! My mom and I watched every point of the match and when you dropped to the ground we jumped to our feet! We cried with you and when your mother and father kissed you ... we cried again! As a mother of a son, I know your mother must be SO proud of the man you have become. You are a champion on and off the court. Congrats on your first of many Wimbledon title! You earned it! WImbledon 2008 had only one winner, but in my opinion ... two champions. See you in Cincinnati!

Congratulations. I am so glad that you won. It was such a close match I could hardly believe it.Sometimes I couldn't bear to watch it because of the tension! It looked like each player worked really really hard to get every single point. Well done for reaching the top!!

Rafa,
Many congratulations for this feat, I respect you as much for the outstanding player as for the humble guy outside the courts.

Congratutlations Rafa! What a thrilling tennis match. I wouldn't say I was a big tennis fan, but yesterday's mens singles final was someting special. The rallies were phenomenal and some of shots reached and played defied belief. To beat a Wimbledon legend such as Federer must rank as the greatest achievement. I think that final will be regarded as the best, and for that Rafael Nadal you will regarded as a legend too.

Third times a charm! You are so mentally tough, it was incredible to watch. Hope this continues to the hard courts. I enjoyed the blog and questions.

WOW!! Rafa - im sure I won't be the last one to comment on yesterday's match, but everyone has their own feeling about it. I can honestly say that supporting you for 3 years now I was desperate for you to claim that title and there was an image in my head that it would be YOU holding that gold cup, not the 5 time champion Federer.
What an achievement for you to treasure for a lifetime, I hope there are many more Wimbledon victories for you, as your play is the most incredible out of anyone, even though people argue Federer is. I know I am being biased maybe as I am your BIGGEST fan but I truly think you are the king of all surface areas, as you proved last night.
Many congratulations, and I am really your biggest supporter - You are a God Rafa!!
Lots and lots of love,
Darcey

Turned onto the mens final by accident, haven't really enjoyed a men's final since Connors v McEnroe in 1984, thoroughly enjoyed, both players, fantastic, best final since Borg v McEnroe in 1980

Dear Rafa,
Thanks so much for your truly amazing performance- I watched it with my gran after she'd just discovered her daughter has been killed in an accident. For the next 5 hours your match completely absorbed us and took our minds away from this situation (even though she was supporting federer- i was supporting you, of course!). Watching both of your extraordinary courage and determination helped us get through a difficult day.

Dear Rafa
Enhorabuena... mil veces!!!! As a Spaniard in London I cannot describe what I felt yesterday, after also the incredible win of La Furia Roja last Sunday. You make us all very proud.
But remember that la gloria es pasajera, keep your feet firmly in the ground and never stop being humble and approachable. Your blog was fantastic, a great effort for someone who struggles with English. Well done, campeón. God bless you

Rafa, Rafa, Rafa... you are just absolutely amazing!!!
I was screaming and shouting for you to win yesterday! You deserved it so much, you played so well. You are a true champion.
I remember how deflated you were last year to lose to Federer, but I knew you would have your chance to shine! It brought tears to my eyes, honestly. (haha)
You are the most beautiful, charming and lovely man that I have ever seen. I love how you always have your 'game face' on when you are playing, yet off court and in your interviews you are so sweet and caring.
You, and your family too, should be so very, very proud!!
I'd just like to say thank you for providing us with such an entertaining final and also for your blogs!
I can't wait to see you as the No.1 seed :) Good luck in the US Open, you can do it!!
Congratulations!!

I have to say Rafa, that in beginning i didn't really like you...I mean, you always look like you want to leave impression of the tough guy, your funny routines, staff like that.
Then i realised that you are really nice and modest player, not typical Spanish at all.
So although for years i have been supporting Federer yesterday i was supporting you!
What i like about you that even when things go wrong, like when referee warned you about time on important point, you looks so cool and concentrated.
Coller than Federer himself-and i though that would never be possible!
So well done on your victory, was superb match and hopefully very soon you will be number 1.
It is great that man's tennis has such talents such is you,Federer and Djokovic!
It will be really interesting to see what would happen in the future although like you said Federer is still player to beat and example of not just great sportsman but also great person .
Good luck!

Congratulations to Rafael Nadal for playing and winning an epic Wimbledon final. Few of wish to see the same old face winning the trophies year after year. It was a real nail-biter right up to the end, and a very well deserved win.

Congratulations Rafa!!
I could not believe that match you played yesterday.I dont care what other people say,it was the best piece of tennis I have ever seen. They said that last year was the best but this year was far, far better. The tension nearly killed me!!I don't think I have ever wanted any person to win more than you ever.Me and my brother have been arguing since last years final-I said that you would win this year, he said you would lose.I kept my faith in you and I knew you would do it this year!!He is never going to live this down.
The rest of my family, who have no interest in tennis, were all positively glued to match as well.It is matches like that that will make the interest in tennis all over the world much larger.I wish you all the very best in the future and heres to many, many more titles!!

Thanks so much for what you've done, so far Rafa,
you are the best ambassador for us, Spaniards, in the world. Stay humble as a gentleman. The match was epic. Roger played also great (he's still number one) but your mentality and strength made you win Wimbledon. Fair Play between both players made an unforgettable match!!!!
Rafa, sigue dándonos tantas alegrías. España necesita referentes como tu, con tu entrega, pundonor y esfuerzo. Eres uno de los grandes.

Congrats Rafa. I wanted Federer to win, but I was thoroughly impressed by your tenacity, determination and most of all, your skill and physical fitness. I didn't want the match to end. I almost cried when I saw you go up into the stands to hug your family. Please continue to stay humble. Hopefully you guys will get to play again in the US Open!!!

Congratulations on your win. I agree with John McEnroe, this was the most fantastick performance ever in Wimbeldon tennis history. Savour the win, it's all yours now.
Posted by: Sue | Monday, July 07, 2008 at 04:25 PM
Congratulations Rafa. I was in the minority among my friends and family by supporting you, but I hoped against hope that you would win, and of course your incredible determination made sure that you did.
It was one of the most thrilling events I have ever witnessed, not just in tennis, but ever! I could hardly bear the tension but I kept myself glued to the screen even when there were times (3, to be precise!) when I desperately wanted to look away.
As others have said, I cannot stop watching the replays, and it makes me tearful every time watching you climb up to your family to celebrate, and then give such a respectful tribute to Federer in your speech.
Your victory meant a lot to me and to many others I would imagine. Even now it would be hard to measure the difference in yours and Federer's talent... you are both champions. But on that court, as Federer stunned the crowd by getting stronger and stronger, you held out, soldiering on even as those many early chances passed you by... so that it became a battle between something more than talents... Your win was a victory for determination, desire, hard-work, and most of all, relentless optimism. It was a lesson in faith and inner-strength. It was amazing!
And that is why I shouted in delight and punched the air when you won, when those around me sank into their seats with sullen expressions, their infallible Champion defeated. Federer is incredible. Some would argue, he is the closest to perfection a tennis player has come. But you beat him. You defeated perfection with stubborn, unrelenting positivity. And that is something I will remember forever!
No match was ever so fittingly accompanied by Rudyard Kipling’s ‘If..’. The day was made all the more special when the BBC played the tape of you and Roger reading it during the second rain delay. The lines about treating ‘Triumph and Disaster’ both the same have always been important to me, especially when I was a young kid and competitive little tennis player! But what stuck out this time were the very first lines:
“If you can keep your head when all about you, are losing theirs and blaming it on you.”
I’d say everyone in the Rafa camp went mad with nerves during that match – apart from you. You kept the faith, and as a result, you had the edge.
What an incredible, unforgettable Wimbledon final. It was entertaining, epic, and for me, enlightening, even in the darkness. Thank you thank you thank you. And CONGRATULATIONS!

What a great game you played yesterday!!! Congrats to you, Nadal!!! It was such a thrill to see you play. This is one of the best if not the best tennis match I have seen since Borg and McEnroe.
Enjoy your victory, sweetie. I imagine you are still up in the clouds, and probably did not get much sleep last night

Just well done Rafa and many congratulations. I've been following your progress ever since you came on the main tour and I've seen you get better year after year. Winning 4 French Opens back to back, winning Queens Club (another mindblowing performance!) and now Wimbledon. Just wow wow wow!!!
You are a true inspiration and a shining example to young and old alike. Go Rafa!

What an amazing match! I'm still on a high after watching it, at the edge of my seat, nails bitten to the quick, and my mother trying to calm me down as I shouted at the television last night. This was so much better for me than Liverpool winning the Champions League in 2005, another amazing live event! I was crying with emotion when you broke Federer's serve in the final set, as I knew then that you had won it (although the final game was a nail-biter too!)
Congratulations Rafa, your determination, hard work, love of tennis, down-to-earthness and graciousness are truly inspiring!

Wow... I just... wow. This was so beautifully intense, I have no words to describe it. This was the most beautiful moment you've ever made me live. Ever. And that's saying a lot. I was right there with you, Rafa. I fell on my knees, at the same time you did. I've never stopped believing you would win this, I've known for a long time, but when it happened... wow. It was truly incredible.
CONGRATULATIONS, Rafa for the most beautiful, emotional, epic win EVER!! They say you marked history there, that's what they say, and it's true, it's incredible, and it amazes me. But to me, the most important thing, the reason why I was so overwhelmed with emotion, is that you made your childhood dream come true. You won with your guts and with your heart and your beautiful talent, you've worked so hard for this, and you deserved it a hundred times over.
Most of all I wanna say THANK YOU. Thank you, thank you, thank you. A million times. What I lived there - it helps me so damn much. I hope you have at least a little idea of the impact you have on your fans. Your courage has helped me through tough times, and it still does.
And I also hope you'll do it again. Win Wimbledon, that is. ;) And write a blog of course. I loved reading it. :D

Rafa, if you keep improving your tennis like that, you will become the best tennis player ever. Those who said you were good only on clay must admit you are the best even on grass. For God's sake, you have won Wimbledon! Keep on playing like you did yesterday, and the World No. 1 will be yours this summer. The key is the U.S. Open. If you won it (which would mean three Grand Slams in a row) you could reach the number one.
Vamos, campeón. En el abierto americano tienes que tumbar también a Djokovic!

Rafa, congratulations on a fantastic win. I can remember watching the first Borg McEnroe match like it was yesterday and though that match was fabulous, yours was even better. The best thing about you Rafa is that you are such a great role model: Amazingly talented, but also very modest and such a good sportsman. You make the world a better place with your example. Felicitats noi!!!

I've been a fan of yours for many years and I am so unbelievably happy and proud of you for the match you played yesterday. You really deserved it after working so hard for so many years and staying so humble throughout. There has never been any ego, but always so much class in everything you do. It took an incredible champion to lead Federer by two sets in the first place, it took an unbelievable champion to brush aside those match points and Federer's improved play and to come back to win and most of all, it took an unbelievable champion to stand there at the end and give such a heartfelt speech of respect about your opponent. What a match and you are such a worthy winner. Good luck for the hard courts and thank you so much for the blog.

I am still reeling from the most wonderful match. I knew you would fight to the end Rafa, like a Torro. I always felt that this was your time and destined for you this year but watching it was beyond words. Te quiero mucho. Linda

I am not keen about Tannis, but I traced this match from beginning to the end, see if Frederer can take the 6th champianship or not, on the other hand I was your fan in this game (I like challengers) today, July6-7. I saw how the greatest 2 handle this great stress, hornstly, I thought Frederer surely win, he is so calm, he is mentally bettle, I thought, without a doult until my favor moment of 2008 came, YOU WIN MATE!!! YEAH!! YEAH!! YEAH!! YEAH!! YEAH!!That's life mate! GO NADAL!

Cannot say how excited we were to see you win yesterday! An absolute jaw-dropping performance, we have been following you for 3 years now and knew this was your time. Am also so pleased that our four young children are such fans as we admire your conduct on and off court as much as your amazing athletic ability. Thanks for everything!

Congrats Rafa!! What a match? If I could feel so proud by just supporting you and forecasting you as the winner among my friends who all wanted Roger to win, I can imagine how a "Top of the world" experience it might have been for you. Continue the good show and grab US open as well. Cheers!!!!!

Congratulations Rafa! What an amazing victory! I went through so many emotions watching the match, I'm sure all of us did too. I stayed up all night and morning (11pm until 6:30am the next morning!) to watch you re-write history yet again. You are the best champion this sport has ever had. Vamos Campeón!
Thanks for writing (dictating) the blog for the past 2 weeks, it was an enjoyable read. I tried making the pasta with gambas and mushroom yesterday... :)

Parabéns Rafael!
Tonight when i came from Spain and watched the news in the Net and one big part of the game i stayed very happy for you.I was in Isla mágica and like i had told you i was going to do it, I made a wish in the top of the towers"that a guy with a strong unusual potencial wins a match" and he did it.Your hapiness is my hapiness today because i always belived in you .Yesterday i saw the player in Roland Garros no sorry even better and it was all i was waiting for you to do,its an emotion difficult to explain. You could not be a writer but you always have been sincere in your words and that is more important than the best writing you can read, you were just being yourself. On last thing my advice..."Rafael continue to be the person you are and continue to grow day after day because every day is a new day and we always have something to learn, be humbble and never forget the persons who helped you on your way, thank them much as you can is the best gift you can show to a person. And what about me i´m just a girl who wish you could came to Portugal play a match for me to see in person your qualities in the court and why i belive in you all over the years. You are and will continue to be no matter what my tennis player number one, i admire you very much.Taking your last words i hope you write soon again.Take care lovely Rafael:).Cristina. HUGE CONGRATS RAFA! Not sure if this will go through since Wimbledon is over and you are the CHAMPION!! I was so nervous, I had knots in my stomach during some of those tie breakers, I can only imagine how your family felt! You definitely have an extremely strong mental strength on and off the court.
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!
LUV U,
Cheryl

Congratulations... all the way from India. It was a hard match and I hope your knee is alright. You deserved to win yesterday because you were the better player and were in top form. It's incredible how much your game has matured and you're one of the most intelligent players I've ever seen! Espana should be proud :)
And you're a good writer as well.. don't worry ;)

Dear Rafa, I wanted you so much to win this title and you did. I am so happy for you !! But what a sunday afternoon it was. I cannot remember the day I ever screamed so much watching a tennis match, or any match that is (my husband had a great time watching me). This was the best tennis I have ever seen. You are a true champion in every way. Thank you so much for this blog and take care.

CONGRATULATIONS RAFA!!! What a match, and what a fantastic result. I truly believe if rain hadn't stopped play you would have done it in straight sets, but then again the drama just added to the occasion.
I took so much stick from my friends for supporting you as I am in Scotland and they all back Andy Murray, but you are in a different league - soon to be No 1 I'm sure. It's been a pleasure to read your blog - best wishes always.

The time has came and Nadal took it by force. Congrats to the new Champion, I was rooting for you all the way. I knew you could do it, even though I knew it would be harder than anything I've ever dreamed of. Watching you play makes me want to get back into tennis again and try to prove to myself and friends that I still have what it takes. And to make it all better, this match has made it clear, I will go pick up Top Spin 3 ASAP. Only problem is, Rafael Nadal is not on the Xbox 360 and only the PS3. However, I will create the great man and build him up. Thanks for the incredible match, I know I will never see one better, unless it involves you of course :)...

Congratulations Rafa.
Your mentality is fantastic. To be so amazing and yet overcome the great Roger mentally, you are the best athlete in the world - physically, mentally and spiritually.
You will definitely win UsOpen and AusOpen, and grow much more. There is nothing that can stop you, because you believe so strongly and work so hard.
I am your fan for life. Vamos Rafa !!!

Congratulations to Rafa. Here's a little poem I wrote about the final:
THE GLORY OF COMBAT
What a magnificent moment in tennis today,
Almost five hours total … a record they say.
The world’s greatest venue; the world’s two best players;
One pumped up and sleeveless ... one refined, dressed in layers.
In the end, both these champions gave it their all,
But one had to win and one had to fall.
Roger’s five trophies have etched him in time,
He’ll feel this loss, but he’s still in his prime.
He’ll emerge in a few weeks, ready for battle,
And he’ll choose to make light of the press and the prattle.
His character strengthened, he’ll welcome the fight,
And be classy and confident, smart and polite.
As for Rafael’s fate, it would not be denied,
He held on to his nerve … his time had arrived.
He showed us his power, his speed and his grit
And the proud Spanish spirit that would not let him quit.
In the cool evening air, Rafa’s smile was glorious,
His flag o’er his shoulders … happy … victorious.
Once again, these two men on that Wimbledon court,
Made us all very proud to be part of this sport.
