Down & Dirty - The Book of The Times Rugby League Blog

Coop_book_cover_3You're reading and contributing splendidly to this blog. The impact is such that I bring news of the book of The Times Rugby League Blog, which has been capturing the imagination of fans and followers of The Greatest Game across the globe. Down & Dirty, A Rugby League Blogging Year will be published at the end of October by YFP Publishing, in association with The co-operative, sponsors of the National Leagues and summer Conference. It will feature the best of the blog entries, features and your comments (Numptyboy, Harry Sunderland, etc. we like your style) - plus a lot more as the story of the 2008 season unfolds. The front cover (above) is subject to change to best reflect the year - Dwain Chambers scoring his debut hat-trick, perhaps. Buy now and you'll not only get Down & Dirty at a discounted price, but your name included in a list of subscribers at the front of the book. See here for full details ... and keep those comments coming!

Er, I think they're referring to followers of the game in different parts of the world - the article does not refer to the greatest game around the globe, as you write Stu. You've misread the article. But never mind, you're probably Australian and cant read very well...

'the greatest game around the globe'....your kiddin, australia is considered the leader in the game yet it can only capture interest in 2 states, same i guess with nth england. you will gain more credibility by being truthful.

Done... ordered. Couldn't help myself.

Sign me up, I'm a big fans of this blog. Can't wait to read the book. Good idea from The Times, which appears to be setting the standards in rugby league. One in the eye for Stephen Jones, too. Bet he won't buy the book, even though he'll probably feature heavily in it.

The Times getting serious about rugby league, crikey that's a thing and I for one will support this venture and excellent blog.
I've been on to the publishers website and it's easy to order. Looking forward to it.

I'll buy buying it when it comes out. Excellent news. More league coverage the better and if this doesn't guarantee me a mention in the book, I'll give Dwain Chambers a run for his money.

Mr 13 do you buy The Times newspaper at all ? I do and Christopher Irvine gets quite a lot in the paper, there's this excellent blog and now a book. That's not bad, is it ?
Blimey.

Not sure about this. I would prefer to see RL in The Times newspaper, not in a book which sounds like it will be full of comments and articles that are already online here.

Hi Jay, the best way to get in the book I'd say is to be funny, witty, erudite, controversial, down and dirty, pithy and THE MAN! You're looking at him, chum. Beat That! UP THE BLOG BOOK!!!!!

Posted by: Numptyboy | 2 Apr 2008 22:04:27

What's the best way to get a quote in the new book? Change my name to something witty and spout something controversial off?

Posted by: Jay | 2 Apr 2008 21:06:52

More good news from the blog that excels. Good luck with the book. I'll look out for it. May even buy it beforehand if I'm going to get my name in it. Nice touch.

Great work Chris for showing that there IS a classier side to rugby rather than the kick and clap variety

Copa you are such a cynic. Great news this and I'll be getting my copy because i love getting down and dirty, so to speak.Like the thought too of getting my name in a book, that'll be a first. Nice one Chris and keep up the great blog work.

Posted by: Frank Fish | 2 Apr 2008 10:01:16

Wow! Pages and pages of English fans complaining about everything under the sun.

Posted by: copa | 2 Apr 2008 06:45:40

What a great development and what a great idea for a book. I'm also flattered Chris that you like my comments. WOW! This blog has been the best media development in rugby league terms for years. It's fantastic and I'm sure the book will be just as good. Can't wait. Will place my order now.
Thanks and good luck with Down and Dirty - great title!

    Christopher Irvine,
    fell under rugby league's
    spell while a junior reporter
on the Warrington Guardian in the 1980s.

After ten years as a reporter on the Coventry Evening Telegraph, Yorkshire Post and Scotland on Sunday, he settled for the easy life as a sports correspondent, specialising in rugby league for The Times since 1992 and occasionally getting his hands dirty covering the other code.

League v union? No contest, "The Greatest Game" wins every time.

Chris's book of the blog, Down & Dirty - A Rugby League Blogging Year was published by YFP Publishing at the end of October, in association with The co-operative. You can order the book here or click on the book cover below:
