Where in the world are you?

EarthCalling all rugby league fans. Where in the world are you? From Leigh to London, Batley to Bangkok (a Thai franchise, perhaps?) Salford to Sydney, Dunedin to Doncaster, York to New York, Widnes to Wee Waa, please leaves us your comments here on the blog and let us know from where you are contacting us. Whether you're up a tree in Auckland, in a bar in Boston, your bedroom in Featherstone or surfing at Schipol Airport, please let us know your precise location. We want to build a picture of rugby league's global pulling power in World Cup year - yes, there is one in Australia from October 25-November 22. The results will feature on a global map in the book of the blog that will be published at the end of October - Down & Dirty, A Rugby League Blogging Year, in association with The Co-operative, sponsors of the National Leagues. To pre order and get your name in the book as subscriber see here for details.

* Watch out on Monday on The Rugby League Blog for the start of a series on my top 50 Super League players of all time - all time being 1996 to the present day, of course. Any suggestions will be most welcome. Can I be persuaded to include Andrew Johns? Will Tonie Carroll make it? Or Mark 'Spud' Carroll, or Bernard Carroll come to that? Any room for Blake Cannova or Anderson Okiwe? Surely you remember them? From Carl Ablett to Freddie Zitter, I'm sifting the names of everyone who has played in Super League to come up with my top 50.

born in preston, living in santiago chile. i am from a rugby union background, but fell in love with rugby league 4 years ago when itroduced by an ex member of staff from wigan so i started playing

teaching the skills i learnt to the kids that i coach every day as a vital aid to rugby union

Born and bred in Darwin, N.T, Australia and now living in Harpenden, Herts, UK. Still follow the mighty St George Dragons, admittedly very much from afar, and am also a season ticket holder at Quins. Was involved at St Albans Centurions until recently and still follow them closely.

Can't help but note that, apart from a brief tenure in Sydney and the Gold Coast, I've never lived in, or been associated with, an area which could be considered a 'traditional' RL area. A benefit of expansion, surely?! There may be a young lad today in Bridgend, or Ireland or London etc whose path may follow mine (kinda, sorta) and whose involvement in RL may prove to be life-long.

I'm very much a 'product' of RL expansion in to non-traditional areas in the 70's and 80's - we can only speculate on the impact on the game that other 'products' who will serve the game in 20 and 30 years time as a result of todays expansion efforts......

Long live TGG......

Born in Littleborough, lived in Rochdale till 16, moved to Ireland and have lived there since. Involved with Rugby League Ireland as a coach, was involved in 2 Irish clubs competing in Challenge Cup (got stuffed both times!). Still support Rochdale Hornets and now Catalan Dragons in Superleague

Posted by: Mike Aughey | 14 Jul 2008 12:40:51

Born in Rochdale but moved away and ended up settling in Newport, South Wales. Suppot St Helens as do does my Welsh wife but she will be wanting to watch the Crusaders when they get into Superleague.....And they will. It just makes too much business sense to not include a brand new country rather than keeping it to the M62 corridor.

A Lancastrian, as far as most people here are concerned, more specifically a Mancunian. Used to watch Salford at the Willows, but am now an exile on the Isle of Man...a place full of closet League fans, but unfortunately little RL presence.

    Christopher Irvine,
    fell under rugby league's
    spell while a junior reporter
on the Warrington Guardian in the 1980s.

After ten years as a reporter on the Coventry Evening Telegraph, Yorkshire Post and Scotland on Sunday, he settled for the easy life as a sports correspondent, specialising in rugby league for The Times since 1992 and occasionally getting his hands dirty covering the other code.

League v union? No contest, "The Greatest Game" wins every time.

Chris's book of the blog, Down & Dirty - A Rugby League Blogging Year was published by YFP Publishing at the end of October, in association with The co-operative. You can order the book here or click on the book cover below:
