If underpants could talk. Hull coach's magical cup smalls

UnderpantsHull coach Richard Agar's lucky underpants are all neatly ironed and pressed for their big Wembley outing on Saturday. The pants worked their magic in the Challenge Cup quarter-final at Bradford and again in the semi-finals againt Wakefield, when Agar revealed his Y-front superstition. He inadvertently made out that he'd had the same scrunts on for seven weeks, which prompted lots of screwed up faces at his after-match press conference. But Agar set the record straight in an interview with The Times Rugby League Blog.

"As soon as I said about the underpants, I knew it'd come back to Richard_agar bite me. I've had plenty of stick," Agar said. "The thing is I wasn't joking. I'm not superstitious, normally anyway. But this is also true. Whoever fills the team sheet in, if we win, I make them fill it in the week after, whether it's me, Steve Crooks or Andy Last. I did have the same underpants for the Bradford and Wakefield ties - not seven weeks straight -  and, yes, it was deliberate. I've not worn them since. They've been washed, I might add. They'll be on for Wembley ... if we win, I'll show you them in person!"

As for the underpants, I have word that they have given an exclusive interview to a rival blog. A bum deal if ever there was one.

St Helens warmed up for Wembley with a 40-22 defeat of Huddersfield on Sunday. A casualty, however, was prop Jason Cayless, who is doubtful for the final. Read the match report here.

Can pants be third time lucky, I wonder.
Good luck to Hull. May the force of the Y fronts work the magic.
