Roll up, roll up for the big one

Ken_davyWhat are Huddersfield up to ? Announce that you're letting everyone in free for Saturday night's home game against Catalans and, with great fanfare, declare that chairman Ken Davy (right) will at half time deliver "probably the biggest announcement in the club's modern day history". This is bold stuff. If it's not Roman Abramovich sinking a few million quid into the Giants, Huddersfield packing their bags and moving back to a gold-plated Fartown, or the signing at Darrenlo_2 the very least of Darren Lockyer (left), who today gave rise to increased speculation about a future in Super League after ruling out a code switch, the freebie merchants wandering in should pack some rotten fruit. I may lob the odd cabbage myself if it's another "Shuddersfield" merger with Sheffield, god forbid. The Galpharm should be bursting at the seams - if not, it doesn't say much for the attraction of a free admission policy - for Our Ken's big moment on the microphone. An announcement, he promises, that those there "will never forget". Roll up, roll up.

So, the annoucement was that great that nobody can tell me what it was?

Posted by: Karen | 18 Aug 2008 09:49:59

Well could someone please let us in Australia know what the announcement was?

Posted by: Karen | 16 Aug 2008 23:56:35

USAIN BOLT, BLIMEY!

Posted by: Rob Liddle | 16 Aug 2008 19:26:55

A new three figure sponsorship deal with Brut? Perhaps the story will be splashed all over the papers on Sunday morning.

Posted by: Jay | 16 Aug 2008 17:45:28

The announcement will be that the crowd is the biggest in Huddersfield's SL history, having ensured it is by letting everyone in free and spruiking this big announcement. It's kind of a like a self-fulfilling prophecy or something. Of course if it is something lame it will be a bit of boy crying wolf and any future announcements of this kind will be pretty much ignored.

Free entry? Earth shattering announcement? If it is the signing of Lockyer it really shows how Aussie RL players are massivley idolised by some in the UK RL scene.

Posted by: copa | 13 Aug 2008 12:29:05

And it's just been put up on the foxsports website that Lockys manager has said that Locky hasn't decided yet. Hope the announcement is a good one, coz it's nothing to do with Locky...bad luck!

Posted by: Karen | 13 Aug 2008 01:08:58

You have no chance of getting him. He hasn't made up his mind yet. He said a few weeks back that he may stay on in Brissy.

Posted by: Karen | 13 Aug 2008 01:05:39

What's the betting that Karen and Broncos Fans are one and the same person. I hear it's Lockyer nailed on for Saturday's announcement. Sorry Brisbane.

Posted by: Goldie Horn | 12 Aug 2008 23:25:48

There is no chance that the annoucement will have anything to do with the champion Darren Lockyer. This week he announced himself that there is no chance of him playing union, and he won't decide on his future until at least midway through next season. The QLD press would be all over this if there was any credibility to it.

Lockyer or bust! If it is just Ken Davy burbling on about redevelopment, they'll have 20,000 walking in and 20,000 walking straight back out at half time. What on earth is the point of having a mega announcedment - to say we're building a couple of stands and fun park ? Leave that to the developers. I think Huddersfield will look a bunch of nitwits if that''s all it is. There'll be runctions if its not a big name for next season or 2010. Come on Ken give us Lockyer!!!!!!

Posted by: Bert Goldthorpe | 12 Aug 2008 18:51:31

It will be about the development of the Galpharm Stadium as was announced a few weeks back.

Posted by: Fully | 12 Aug 2008 17:58:32

And the odds from Betunfair are in for Ken Davy's big, big announcement ...

2-1 Some sort of ground development or sporting village for Huddersfield;

10-1 Darren Lockyer to sign for the Giants;

20-1 Ruben Wiki to sign at the age of 43;

100-1 Bill Gates to plough £100 million into the club;

101-1 Gareth Gates to plough £100 into the club;

1,000-1 Oil has been discovered under the Galpharm. Club moving back to Fartown, £1 billion richer;

1,000,000-1 The second coming;

1,000,000,000,000 -1 Giants to win the 2010 Grand Final.

Tell somebody who cares!

Posted by: Mike hunt | 12 Aug 2008 14:37:12

Is he talkin to me?

Posted by: Travis Bickle | 12 Aug 2008 14:36:27

And is it me, or does Ken Davy look like he's the Pope in that picture ?
El Papa Ken!

Posted by: Giants fan | 12 Aug 2008 12:52:31

I'm worried about this one. Ken Davy has stuck his neck on the line and will make this major announcement hopefully in front of a near or full house and in front of the live Sky cameras. If it isn't the signing of Lockyer and it's just something to do with the stadium/sponsors/money etc. I really think that people will feel in some way defrauded. The only thing a mass audience will understand is a massive player signing. Anything else will be a bit of hoo hum, so what. He's tickled our fancy by telling us about this big stonking anouncement, so he's going to have to deliver. Otherwise I might take an old cabbage, too.

Posted by: Giants fan | 12 Aug 2008 12:51:03

Locky has said himself that he won't make a decison on his future until at least midway through next year. You can't have him!!

Posted by: Karen | 12 Aug 2008 12:45:50

i think some1 is buying us who has got a load of money

Posted by: nathaniel | 11 Aug 2008 21:50:59

i think it will be the signing of darren lockyer for the 2010 season.

Posted by: lee churchman | 11 Aug 2008 21:29:49

Ken Davy has found Shergar .... no, no, he's signed Ronaldo .... no, no, he's merging the club with Chelsea ... no, no, he's merging the club with Arsenal ..no, no, he's signing Paul Sculthorpe...AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Bert Goldthorpe | 11 Aug 2008 18:37:51

A merger with Wests Tigers ? Goodness knows they've got enough of their old players.
