Rob Purdham and Lee Smith in England World Cup squad

Rob_purdhamEleven hours and counting, as I write this, to the announcement of Lee_smith Tony Smith's 24-man squad for the World Cup. Two players who I hear are definitely in are Harlequins captain Rob Purdham and Leeds wing-cum-full back Lee Smith after his man of the match heroics against St Helens in the Grand Final. Not bad for a player who Leeds were toying with parcelling off to Wigan in mid season and, I'm indebted to my tabloid colleagues, once dated Donna Dingle from Emmerdale - actress Verity Rushworth. All very glam, unlike Mr Purdham's farming background in Cumbria, unless you consider cows and sheep glamorous. As well as his physical prowess and turn of pace, Purdham's appeal extends to his versatility. Watch out for him in Australia popping up at centre and captaining England against Wales in Doncaster on Friday. Tony Smith, over to you ...

Nice couple of players he's picked there, I also would like to see Shenton in the squad.

No Fielden though, I hope you dont live to regret that Tony, I have a feeling Tony just doesnt like Fielden....He has been on great form the second half of this year and deserves a spot on that plane to Australia, Englands pack is looking a little skinny, I hope you know what your doing Tony!!!!

Well done Lee Smith. Good call on Purdham too, he's been terrific for Quins. Like to see Shenton and young Westerman in from Cas. Do the right thing Tony!
