Do you speak Nerdic?

Rick2_4 Nerdic is now the fastest growing language in Europe, according to research by Pixmania. That's Nerdic,  as in geek-speak, rather than anything to do with Scandinavia.

Nerdic is adding 100 new words a year to the lexicon. As one commentator says: "It's incredible that I can describe an N96 with HSDPA, Wi-Fi with a 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss and GPS and be understood across Europe."

Understood across Europe? Who's he kidding.

So here are the top 10 Nerdic words and phrases to look out for, with definitions - just in case you find yourself trapped in Nerdia without a dictionary. (Note acroynms should be used where ever possible).

1. Wimax - Big scale Wi-Fi covering say a whole city rather than just Starbucks.

2. RickRoll - Intentionally misdirect internet users to a  video of "Never Gonna Give You Up" by 80s popster Rick Astley. If you're feeling left out of this craze, you can rickroll yourself here.

3. UGC (user generated content) - Make stuff and put it online yourself like YouTube, Flickr, Facebook or blogs.

4. Mashup - Take the best bits from other websites or applications and make them into something really cool, like this Google map on Times Online.

5. RFID (Radio-frequency identification) - chips that enable you to track stuff as it moves whether it's FedEx parcels, apples, criminals or deviant lovers.

6. Android - A Google software package for mobile phones which allows anyone to make applications and create their own iPhone-type systems. Well by anyone they mean anyone with a degree in geek.

7. HDMI (High definition multi-media interface) - A lead that lets you connect high definition devices to each other; such as your plasma tv to your video games console.

8. Fuel-cell - A clean long-life eco-friendly battery which can be used to power anything from your laptop to your car.

9. HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) - Super fast 3G on mobile phones. Makes accessing the internet on your mobile just as fast as the broadband connection on your desktop.

10. DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld) - Watch TV on your mobile on the go - just watch out for lamp posts and other people.
