Best MBA blogs
The internet is famous for the way that it captures the attention of people who suddenly notice a discharge that's too worrying to ignore and too embarassing to explain to a doctor. This is partly due to the web's anonymity - there's no shame in asking questions when no one knows that it's you - and partly because of the way it lets us feed our obssessions ("okay, so I click 'yes' to the 'is it green?' question and...gosh, can I really have caught tropical pymomyositis in Reading?").
Add to that the relief of knowing that you're not the only person in the country who can shoot avocado-coloured goo out of the lump in your armpit and it's surprising that anyone gets any work done.
But it's not just weirdos and hypochondriacs who want to pore obsessively over the details of something that may or may not (a) be true; (b) apply to them; or (c) be physically possible. Nope. Would-be MBA students are just as interested in finding out everything that they can about business schools, from which one gets the most recruiter visits from investment banks through to what font the dean prefers for application essays.
While it would of course be possible for candidates to ring up their preferred school and ask them these things, it's just as easy to hit Google and read other students' thoughts on the matter. Might be a good idea to put some time aside, though - "MBA student blogs" gets 272,000 hits. (Narrow it down to "MBA student blogs green pus" and there are only 1,140, but I'm not sure that I want to read any of them).
Anyway, what was my point? You'd think I'd get there faster given that it's sunny outside and I can sneak off early once this is written. Yes, that's it: no need to read all of them as a competition run by Clear Admit, an educational counselling firm, has listed the best MBA student and applicant blogs in a number of categories. (I was one of the judges but they'd kindly given me a shortlist, meaning I didn't have to read 272,000 Google pages.)
The best applicant blog went to July Dream, a Californian dancing queen who scored 690 on the GMAT despite her sat-nav nearly causing her to miss the test.
The most entertaining applicant blog was written by VidiViciVeni, who decided on London Business School in part because it sent him a really useful admissions pack in a nice leather folder.
m@ won three categories: top student blog, most entertaining student blog and best single post by a student (in a tie with Maybe MBA). To be fair, m@ does make business school life sound fun, what with the most recent couple of posts coming from Jamaica.

Haha, well, I wouldn't consider living in rural Jamaica for a week "fun", per se, but certainly eye-opening. :) Thanks for the shout-outs from across the pond!
