Charlton to boost promotion hopes
Charlton Athletic should be backed at general odds of 6-5 to enhance their promotion prospects by beating Coca-Cola Championship leaders Bristol City at the Valley on Tuesday evening. The match is one of ten in the second tier being played on the night.
The Addicks remain in the thick of the promotion scrap in fifth place, nine points behind their pace-setting rivals, and will be acutely aware of the need to bag maximum points to bolster their prospects of filling one of the top two places and so avoid the lottery known as the play-offs.
Charlton take the pitch in robust form, latterly taking three points on their travels for the first time since November when winning 2-0 away to Sheffield United on Saturday, with striker Chris Iwelumo opening the scoring with his tenth strike of the campaign.
Victories at home this year against fellow promotion contenders Stoke City and Crystal Palace, the Addicks arch enemies, confirm Charlton as tough opponents on their own patch.
Bristol City, whose title odds of 5-1 reflect their difficult run-in, were respectively beaten 2-0 and 3-0 by Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers in their past two visits to London, in January and February.
Elsewhere, Hull City, whose boss Phil Brown was left frustrated by his team’s 2-1 loss away to Bristol City on Saturday, the Tigers having looked the better side for much of the first half, can land odds of 6-5 (Coral) at home to Burnley.
West Bromwich Albion appeal at 5-4, also with Coral, to win away to Sheffield Wednesday.
