Murray into 9-1 for Wimbledon
Andy Murray has shortened for Wimbledon after his victory over world No.1 Roger Federer in the Dubai Open on Monday.
The Scot is now 9-1 with Paddy Power to win in SW19, from 16-1 before the Federer victory, and 9-2 (from 7-1) to be BBC Sports Personality. Despite beating the Wimbledon legend, Murray is 500-1 to ‘do a Federer’ and win the next five Wimbledons.
Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: “This will see another tide of Murray betting for Wimbledon and BBC Sports Personality. If he finds some consistency and doesn’t lose in the first round next week, those odds could drop even further.”
Murray’s victory was a first defeat for Federer in the first round of a tournament for three-and-a-half years. The success of the 20-year old Briton means Federer has not yet won a tournament this year, having lost in the semi-finals of the Australian Open to Novak Djokovic.
Federer is a top-priced 10-11 with VC Bet and William Hill to bag another Wimbledon title this year.
