Ogilvy worth each-way bet at 40s
Geoff Ogilvy could reward each-way support at general odds of 40-1 in the WCG-CA Championship at Doral, starting Thursday.
The Australian endured something of a disappointing season last year after opening his major account in the US Open in 2006 but returned one of his better efforts here at Doral when finishing joint-third to Tiger Woods.
A run of three successive top-tens in late summer — including in the PGA Championship — suggested Ogilvy would soon be winning again and there has been further encouragement in recent starts, the 30-year-old finishing tied-tenth in the PODS Championship and tied-14th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando last week.
Almost inevitably it was again Woods who lifted that prize, the world No.1 claiming his ninth win in ten tournaments, and his odds of 5-6 this week in a field featuring 49 of the world’s top 50 players reflect his present dominance of the game.
Woods has five consecutive wins on the PGA Tour and has not lost an event since he tied for second place at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Massachusetts in September. Moreover, he has won the past three events on the Blue Monster course at Doral — last year’s WGC-CA and the final two years of the Doral Open.
