Cambridge to book place in final
Cambridge can make sure of their place in the Blue Square Premier final by beating visitors Burton in the second leg of their semi-final on Tuesday evening. The U’s are a stand-out 23-20 with VC Bet - most bookmakers offer evens.
Burton will rue the loss of a 2-0 superiority in their home leg, a penalty from Daryl Clare and a Darren Stride header giving them the advantage with just 20 minutes left.
But a Lee McEvilly penalty brought Cambridge back into the match and the same player tied the scores from a free kick with seven minutes remaining.
That late escape puts the momentum with Cambridge, who ended the regular season in better form than Burton.
The U’s won five of their last eight games, against Burton’s record which included just three wins but four defeats.
There is a lingering doubt about Cambridge’s goal-power - their two at Burton came from set pieces - but overall they are fancied to take a big step towards regaining their league status.
Burton are best at 5-2 with Boylesports and VC Bet, and the latter are tops about the draw at 49-20.
