Hatters can top the bill
Stockport County have what it takes to win the League Two play-offs. The Hatters, a standout 5-2 with Stan James, are fancied to get the better of Wycombe Wanderers (100-30) in their semi-final and can prove too strong for either Darlington (11-4) or Rochdale (11-4) in the decider.
All four clubs in the play-offs will lament their home form during the regular season. The quartet combined to drop points in no fewer than 46 matches on their own patch and, inevitably, that cost them dear in the final analysis.
Remarkably, Stockport picked up more points away from home during the campaign and their record on the road should serve them well in the weeks ahead. A decent result away to Wycombe in the first leg of their semi-final on Sunday will put them in pole position to appear at Wembley.
Stockport should certainly boast a psychological edge over Wycombe - thrashing them 6-0 at home in December before drawing 0-0 in the return fixture.
Jim Gannon’s team having nothing to fear from Rochdale, either, having achieved the double over them this term by a 4-1 aggregate. And, for good measure, they beat Darlington 1-0 only last month.
Liam Dickinson scored the only goal of that game and the 22-year-old, who has 19 goals this term despite missing a dozen matches, could have plenty more to cheer before the month is over.
