Penalty shoot-out is 9-2
With an estimated £20 million likely to be bet on the Champions League final, the bookmakers have been putting in overtime to come up with a series of special bets.
There is some mileage in Paddy Power’s offer of 9-2 that the match goes to a penalty shoot-out, and for those Man Utd fans who foresee Champions League history repeating itself the same firm have United at 12-1 to come from behind and win in normal time.
The market on ITV’s first commentary cliche during the match is good fun even if backers are not tempted to get involved. Paddy Power have 9-2 about 759 (Ryan Giggs’ club appearances) to get the first mention, with 5-1 Missed the final in 99, and 6-1 First all-English final.
Ladbrokes have entered into the spirit by offering 5-6 whether (or not) an Englishman scores in the final, and have Chelsea at 5-1 to win the Champions League and the Premier League next season. United are 9-2 about the same double.
The same firm have any player to be shown a red card at 3-1.
William Hill join the party by offering 9-4 that a penalty will be awarded during 90 minutes play in the game, and 3-1 that a penalty will be awarded and scored. They are 12-1 that one is awarded and missed.
Hills have Frank Lampard at 4-7 to leave Chelsea before the start of next season and 5-4 still to be there on the first day of term. He is 6-5 to be an Inter Milan player, also on the first day of next season.
