Turkey to finish off Swiss role
Turkey can keep their Euro 2008 hopes alive by beating co-hosts Switzerland in Basel on Wednesday evening. They are a general 12-5, and that is reasonable for a match which both sides need to win.
The Turks were beaten 2-0 by a strongly fancied Portuguese side in their opener, keeping a foothold in the game until Portugal’s second goal late in the game.
Switzerland were a little unfortunate in their 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Czech Republic, and indeed in parts of the game looked the more accomplished side.
The big problem for the Swiss is that, aside from the defeat, they have lost top-scorer Alexander Frei to injury for the remainder of the tournament.
Although they have home advantage, that presents its own problems as the crowd is sure to want their side to make the running. That could play into the hands of a Turkey outfit best suited to counter attacking.
Switzerland are best at 13-10 with Paddy Power, with the draw 12-5 with VC Bet.
