Durham for Colly good show
Durham should have too many aces for Somerset when they meet in the Pro40 first division at Chester le Street on Wednesday - a day/night fixture being shown by Sky Sports 2.
England rejects Paul Collingwood, Steve Harmison and Liam Plunkett give Durham, who are in Twenty 20 action tonight, a strong foundation and then, of course, there is Shivnarine Chanderpaul, a genuinely world-class performer who has played in 112 Tests for West Indies.
Collingwood and Chanderpaul combined to steer home Durham in their opening Pro 40 fixture away to Middlesex - the combination sharing in an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 132. Collingwood is a tempting 5-1 with Blue Square to emerge as Durham’s top runscorer on Wednesday, with Chanderpaul generally quoted at 7-2.
With Michael Di Venuto also enjoying a fruitful time with the bat, Durham, chalked up at 8-13 by Bet365, are not short of potential match winners.
Somerset, 11-8 with Boylesports, also boast plenty of batting depth, with Marcus Trecothick, Ian Blackwell, Justin Langer and James Hildreth combining to rattle up more than 2,700 runs in the county championship this year.
Of that quartet, Blackwell stands out, in terms of value, at 13-2 with Skybet.
However, they do seem to reserve their best for the longer format of the game and further proof of that that was provided by their opening Pro 40 defeat at the hands of Sussex, when they were unable to defend a tally of 240.
