Wycombe can be Trophy wonders
Wycombe Wanderers look a value punt, at 40-1 with Coral, to win this season’s Johnstones Paint Trophy.
The competition, exclusively for teams in League 1 and League 2, continues on Tuesday night and is not easy to predict because, with most clubs making promotion or avoiding relegation a priority, you cannot guarantee managers opting to field full-strength sides.
However, MK Dons managed to scoop the spoils last March en route to winning the League 2 title and that augurs well for Wycombe, who lead League 2 this term after an unbeaten start to the campaign.
Peter Taylor took over as manager of the Chairboys at the end of May and, while goals have been in fairly short supply, the manner in which he has got his team defending spells bad news for opposition clubs. In nine league games, Wycombe have conceded only three goals, with Bury (second in League 2) and Brentford (fourth) being among those shut out.
Wycombe begin their Trophy quest with a Southern Section second round tie at home to fellow promotion hopefuls Shrewsbury Town. Skybet make Wycombe 11-8 and that looks fair, with the Shrews saving their best performances for home soil.
Leicester City (6-1) and Leeds United (8-1) head the betting to win the Trophy, but winning promotion to the Championship will be at the top of their agenda. Peterborough (10-1) and MK Dons (12-1) are also prominent in the market.

Wycombe 0 Shrewsbury 7 - another great football tip gone west.
