Double up for best chance on thin day
With the July meeting at Newmarket having been pushed back a day, punters are left with a jumps card, two all-weather fixtures and Pontefract to peruse today. Betting opportunities are mightily thin on the ground and the best option may be a short-priced double on 5-6 chance Any Given Day (7.50 Uttoxeter) and 10-11 shot Red Cadeaux (4.45 Wolverhampton), paying 5-2 at morning prices with William Hill.
Any Given Day, a useful middle-distance performer on the Flat, has been really impressive on both starts since switching to hurdles. A fluent jumper, he has not been troubled to win with ease on each occasion, including over this course and distance last time, and it will be disappointing if he cannot defy a double penalty on the way to better things.
Red Cadeaux shaped with promise in three starts over shorter in maidens, but looked a different horse upped to this trip on his handicap debut here eight days ago, never coming off the bridle to win with any amount in hand. This looks slightly more competitive, but he should be able to defy a 6lb penalty.

Rob, not your best spell!
