How to make the Festival payThe credit crunch is biting but I’ve got £100 to bet with — how do I win a life-changing amount? No point in messing around. The first race looks the bet of the day, so have the lot on Torphichen at 11-2. That’s better — £650 to play with. The next two races are too tough, so wait for the big one and have £300 each-way on Whiteoak at 18-1. They get dizzy in the cross-country race, so that’s a no bet, leaving Carole’s Legacy to bring home the bacon in the last — £6,000 to win £100,000 and we’ll have the bookies trembling in their Rolls Royces. Alternatively, you could just go by the names. A £100 win treble on Copper Bleu (1.30), Golden Silver (2.05) and Golden Flight (2.40) would pay around £600,000. Who needs a formbook?
