Monty on the range
Have just spent a couple of hours on the range at St Andrews and Colin Montgomerie was practising close by. He was about as far removed from his dour image as you could imagine and seemed in great form. Top coach Pete Cowan gave him a lesson and Monty appeared to be striking the ball very nicely indeed. I, on the hand, tried about 73 different swing thoughts, none of which worked.

As far as the best ball to use, I would get the swing down pat first.
But colored golf balls are perfect for the miniature crowd.

The hole where you have to knock the ball through the windmill is the toughest

Funnily enough a mate of mine sat next to Monty at a lunch a few months ago - when he saw the seating plan he was already to slit his wrists but it turns out that our Colin was quite the wag and great company.
Such a shame that he can't keep that relaxed air on the course - he gets stroppy, he winds the crowd up, they wind him up (only in States obviously!)and the wheels come off!
Almost certain that this Ryder Cup Collosus will end up majorless - shame.
