Can Andy Murray win Wimbledon?

Murray

At the beginning of Wimbledon we asked whether you thought Andy Murray could win the championships. After his astonishing five-set victory yesterday, he is now in the quarter-finals - which is where 24 per cent of you predicted he would lose. What do you think now? Vote below ...

Henmania is a thing of the past and now everybody's favourite Brit for two weeks is Andy Murray.

He says he will be bringing a new laid-back personality to Wimbledon this year and that is why he believes he can win it.

This assessment has (almost) been echoed by a former champion. Lleyton Hewitt, the Australian who won the title six years ago, has been practicing with the Scot and reckons Murray has a great chance of making it through to the second week. Which in British terms is nearly as good as winning the championship.

So how will Murray do? Can we look forward to a breeze into next week before he has to meet the top seeds? Or are we looking at another false dawn for the sport on these shores?

He could win Wimbledon if British press weren't so tiresome. He's always under pressure! Let the guy alone and he will start doing it better.

How can he win wimbledon when he is useless? He seems to get injuries before some of the big games (Queens last week)He is a champion moaner but that's it. I can't see him getting past the first round this year.

What a silly question to ask before a 21 year old hopeful has played his first match!

Ask this question if he reaches the last 4 and has beaten Nadal.

Until then, ask if he can win his next match.

As Bob Paisley's most successful Liverpool side did.

It's called 'taking each match as it comes'....it brought Liverpool rather a lot of league titles, European Cups and League Cups, didn't it?

No doubt Sir Alex Ferguson focusses solely on the end of May as his squad limbers up for the first match of the season in August! Same with Arsene Wenger!

They're all idiots you know...that's why they've won so much.......

Murray's muscle-flaunting after his Wimbledon win was vulgar; the press coverage of the win sycophantic; the interviewing of him fawning; Wimbledon's scheduling of all his matches on Centre Court biased; its refusal to halt the match during the 5th set as light faded partisan. Yuk!

Andy Murray has no chance whatsoever of beating Nadal,as Nadal is a more complete and better Player than Murray ever will be.How can Murray compete with Nadal and his Pre Wimbledon build up?I am sorry but to me Murray will always be like Tim Henman and be a nearly Man who almost made it but not quiet!

A Thomas i hope nobody ever takes betting tips from you.
John the mnuscle flaunting as you put it was towards his fitness people to show their hard work had payed off it wasn't vulgar.
Fed has all his matches on centre too most people there are Brits chering on Andy so it makes sense to put him on centre he's British so why shouldn't they? Roddick always gets the best at US Open same with Hewitt in oz.
And as for the light Safin played until 10pm on friday and Seppi didn't say a word he just got on with it.
We're proud our boy is doing well and why shouldn't we be?
And as for Murray frowning you hardly portray a picture of happiness yourself.

how can he win wimbledon if he has to beat nadal tomorrow in qtr.finals,in that case, not to mention federer in the final!? and that is really unlikely to happen...i think this year wimby goes to nadal!
