Surf noir and sound copy - check out this blog
I've never liked the term "surfing the web." Sitting in a chair hurtling around cyberspace has as much to do with surfing as buying an anorak. The imagery of what Captain Cook famously described as "the most supreme pleasure" should never have been hi-jacked by the technophiliacs. But it has, and so here I sit, surfing. Or rather, sitting in a chair, not surfing, but idly keying in search terms and seeing what comes up (as is the way with technophilia). The trouble is, of course, that you can find a lot of interesting things in cyberspace. Things that keep you "surfing the web." Not all of them are pyschologically enriching, but you do find a few gems among the dross. Chief among them for me, following tonight's "surf session," is www.commonground.typepad.com, a blog written by Southern California freelance journalist Enrique Gili (pictured below). This is one of the best environment-orientated blogs I've seen, and also, given Gili's evident passion for the ocean, contains some great stuff about real surfing. Check out his interview with Kem Nunn at the link above. It's called Writing Against Myth: Kem Nunn, and it'll make anyone who hasn't read The Dogs of Winter want to get hold of a copy straight away. Of course, the way to do this is to key in the title in a technophiliac kind of a way, surf the web and find out the who's doing the best deal...

Thanks for the kind words Dude! It's always good to find link-minded folks doing interesting work on the blogosphere.
