New York proposes ban on killer iPods
According to at least one New York state lawmaker, iPods kill. That's why this state senator – remember the name Carl Kruger, particularly if he gets laughed out of office some day soon – wants to slap a $100 fine on anyone who ventures across a busy city street fidgeting with the 5-ounce killers. The same goes for Blackberrys, mobile phones, handheld video games like the PSP, and on and on.
Why the crackdown? Because Kruger has lost a few – two, to be exact, says the Beeb, no, three says Reuters, – see how fast they're dying? – MP3 player-toting constituents recently who stepped out into oncoming traffic and were killed. He says "iPod oblivion" is taking the lives of America's best and brightest, and therefore, outlawing such reckless behaviour is long overdue.
“You shouldn't be crossing streets and endangering the lives of yourself and others. They walk into speeding cars. They walk into buses. They walk into each other. It’s creating an atmosphere where we have a major public safety crisis at hand.” Sen. Kruger told reporters.
Unsurprisingly, most bloggers think Kruger's proposal is doomed to fail. Others, want to see Kruger yanked.

I predict this will be about as effective as jay walking laws.
