Apple: iPhone and iTunes movie store planned for late 2007
Apple's iPhone and its iTunes movie service are heading to Europe, but probably not for another six months. Apple's Europe VP, Pacal Cagri, told France's Les Echos (subscription required) that iTunes' movie and video-download service will arrive in Europe sometime before the end of the year and that, more importantly, iPhone will launch here in the fourth quarter.
Consumers care little for the iTunes movie service (the selection is still pretty thin, and likely will be little improved by Q4). But the tech world is still buzzing about the iPhone, which begins selling in the US in June. Apple plans to sell two models at launch -- a 4Gb model for $499 and and 8Gb for $599. How many units Apple will be able to ship at launch in the US is anybody's guess. Similarly, whether there will be an adequate supply of iPhones in Europe this Christmas and at what price, Apple is not saying. Better start saving your money now.
