Bill Edgar's Thursday trivia question

Question: Who, within the space of three weeks in 1996, scored the goal that ended one club’s 50-year unbeaten home record in Europe and also scored the winning goal in his country’s first victory as a full Fifa member?

Come back tomorrow for the answer and for the Friday quiz.

Yesterday we asked you: What was notable about the results, given the identity of Liverpool’s goalscorer in each game, when the Anfield club played against Arsenal and Norwich City in successive fixtures in April 1987?

Answer: Liverpool had lost none of the first 145 matches in which Ian Rush had scored for them. But they lost the 146th, the League Cup final against Arsenal, and, six days later, also lost the 147th, a league match away to Norwich. In each game Rush scored to put Liverpool ahead before their opponents recovered to win 2-1.

Bill, in the football trivia quiz, you listed the number of times a team has won the FA and League Cup in the same season as twice - Arsenal 1993 and Chelsea 2007 - but Liverpool did the same in 2001, along with the UEFA Cup.
