Bill Edgar's fiendish Friday quiz - with the answers

Question One: (A) Shaun Bartlett. Benni McCarthy, of Blackburn Rovers, moved ahead of Bartlett’s South Africa scoring record in the 3-0 win over Paraguay (McCarthy has 30 to Bartlett’s 29); and Aaron Mokoena, also of Blackburn, equalled Bartlett’s mark of 74 appearances.

Question Two: (C) Leighton Baines. Stephen Jagielka played for Shrewsbury Town; Aaron Lescott plays for Bristol Rovers.

Question Three: (B) Newcastle United and Leicester City. Newcastle won in January 1990 and Leicester gained revenge 11 months later. Both were second-tier fixtures.

Question Four: (B) The last league game he missed. He had played 145 consecutive league games for the club before this weekend.

Question Five: (B) 3: Archie Gemmill, John McGovern and John O’Hare.

Question Six: (C) It was the only kick of his United career. He was a late substitute for the injured Raimond Van der Gouw.
