Is Rio Ferdinand the right choice as England captain?
Fabio Capello has chosen Rio Ferdinand to captain England in tonight's friendly with France, labelling the Manchester United defender a good role model.
While Ferdinand has definitely proved his worth on the pitch, his chequered past suggests that he may not be the model of professionalism the England coach would have us believe.
Ferdinand's list of misdemeanours include him being banned from football by the FA for eight months in 2004 for failing to attend a drugs test plus being banned from driving on four separate occasions, most infamously for a drink-driving offence.
Is this a man we should have lead our country in the national game? Do his previous mistakes set a bad example? Or should we listen to what Ferdinand says and agree that the past should be left in the past? Is he a good role model for having learnt from his mistakes?

The role of captain is outdated. All he does these days is pick up the trophy and we all know that won't be a concern for England.
