Should Sir Alex Ferguson retire?

The Manchester United manager has won his second European Cup to complete a fantastic Double. After reneging on his threat to retire six years ago, is the time now right for him to bow out on a high and enjoy his success?

Although he suggested earlier this season that he would like to continue for another three years, just what is left for the Scot to achieve in his career? Vote in our poll and leave your comments.

I will be glad when fergie retires. It's been too long listening to his verbal rubbish and jealous comments. To all those Manchester United fans you can gloat when you win "FIVE" European Cups. Not winning 2 by beating second rate teams that should compete in the UEFA cup. When LFC won they actually had to beat "champions". Not a poor Roma side, for example, who demonstrated the worst defensive performance in many years. Things have changed, but I seriously doubt fergie's achievement will ever match Paisley's record !!!

Should Sir Alex leave! You're having a laugh! Sir Alex Furguson is Manchester United and has made the club into what it is today. My sincere thanks go to the likes of his lovely wife and family for the sacrifices she and they have made over the years. As a kid in the eighties I used to peddle my bike over a twenty-five mile round trip to see united play, only, more often than not, and sometimes without my bike as it was stolen twice, have to stand in a dank ground watching an underperforming team play who were always the bridesmaids never the bride. Best support in the land and never win anything except the odd FA cup.

It'll be a sad day when Sir Alex leaves Old Trafford, he's simply the best and has strived for excellence with the utmost dignity, and dedication. He's given us untold happy memories and set the standards of how entertaining football should be played. Make no mistake millions will shed a tear when he finaly hangs up his boots, and he'll be the hardest act to follow ever.Thank you Sir Alex. Any chance you can ask your lovely wife if she'll allow you to stay until you're eighty, after all that's the new sixty and she only looks about forty. .

I want him to leave after MU get relegated in 3 years time.

Posted by: Alex | 3 Jun 2008 13:11:26

i hope so. he is a hyprocritical angry fool

Posted by: phil | 2 Jun 2008 20:44:47

I think He should remain for he is paving the foundation for the destruction of the club.See the next manager to replace him will surely need the miracle to perform.
I am an united fan myself but I think He should go for the love of the club. When you think about Liverpool, Bob Paisley could have stayed but he wanted different men to manage to keep liverpool successful,Mr.Paisley certainly loved the club that He wanted more for the club than himself, but Mr. Ferguson certainly loves himself more than the club.

Posted by: partha | 28 May 2008 14:19:23

No. He's good for football. I'm a Liverpool fan and I don't want us to get the better of United by them getting worse, I want us to overcome them in all their glory.

Posted by: Sean | 28 May 2008 01:08:51

No he shouldn't. This team has won league and champions league without reaching anywhere near it's potenial...it's potential is to win the cl two or three times more in the next 4 to 5 years...it's fergie's team and he is the one who should take them there.

Posted by: Robert | 27 May 2008 23:31:48

if they hadn't won the european cup, fergie would be coaching till he's a centurion.

Posted by: jim | 27 May 2008 07:26:10

I`m from Paisley originally and remember my Dad taking me to Love Street to watch St. Mirren. Sir Alex was brill then and is still brill now, even after all these years. He`s the best Manager in the world and football would never be the same again without him. PLEASE don`t retire, Sir Alex. Man.Utd. is your family. Sorry (not) Terry and Lampard !!!

Roy Keane replace Fergie? Why on earth would Roy Keane move to a club with more fickle and remote support than Sunderland? Honestly though; he is renowned as hating the "prawn sandwich" brigade that monopolise at Old Trafford. Whilst Sunderland will almost certainly never have the "cash to splash" that Man Utd have, and consequently have very little hope of winning as many competitions for, perhaps, a generation, Roy Keane is one of the few men in football who have priorities greater than cash - perhaps the potential of taking a club like Sunderland to great heights and creating a dynasty has more appeal than keeping Fergie's seat warm and failing to repeat his success. And I speak as a Newcastle fan - but give the Maccems their due; their support is truer than Man Utd's, and at least they all come from the town that spawned the Club !!!

no problem with what he's done and won but he's the biggest hypocrite in sport! There are a few black kettles and pots around after what he said about Real!

Posted by: yosser | 25 May 2008 09:48:53

Should Tiger Woods retire? Roger Federer? Yes they're alot younger but still.

Posted by: Claire | 24 May 2008 22:56:19

No, he should continue until he's 100

Posted by: Yousef Mousa | 24 May 2008 18:57:02

NO........Man UTD and Us still need Sir Alex. He's wonderfull coach.Thank's Sir

he must stay.. next season i want treble.. :-)

Posted by: amdre | 23 May 2008 01:24:44

Sir Alex will know when it is time to go as he has so much passion left for the game and Man. Utd. i have been a Man Utd fan for over 60 years and served in the R.Signals with Eddie Coleman a busby Babe who lost his life in the Munich air disaster. When we changed managers at the wrong time for the wrong person we went backwards, so carry on Sir Alex until a ex Man Utd player is good enough to take over and that may be Roy Keene.

Posted by: Bill McKAY | 22 May 2008 19:59:44

Yes, Please Retire NOW ....... ;-)

from J Terry & F Lampard, London.

I am scared of the thought that sir Alex is going to retire some day. I want him to stay al least another 4 years or ten but I know it's almost impossible because of his age but on the other hand I don't want to see Queiroz being manager of United. When sir Alex retires Roy Keane should be in his place and he should stay another 20 years full of success. Sir Alex has had this kind of success because of his passion for the game, it's incredible how on his tenth title he was so happy and celebrating like it was his first. Well done!

Posted by: Horea Gentea | 22 May 2008 17:20:49

Are you nuts?

Posted by: Tom (Germany) | 22 May 2008 15:14:00

He still have an energic and enthusiastic heart; so, no reason that he won't continue with Red devils for bigger successes, say a fantastic 4times in the next year. especially, for Mu fan like me to see sexy football forever in Olf Tranford.

Posted by: Dai Duong | 22 May 2008 14:25:16

I dont think he should but after all he has achieved and at his age who could blame him if he did?

what is left for him to achieve apart from taking scotland to win the world cup and man u winning the quadruple?
