Which are your favourite football websites?
We want you to name your favourite football resources for news, statistics, gossip and fun on the internet. How do you get your daily fix? Here are some top sites to get the ball rolling:
Soccerbase - football's nearest equivalent to Cricinfo for exhaustive details of matches, players, and squads. Just the sort of place to find out how many clubs Steve Claridge has played for when the question comes up in a pub quiz.
Who Ate All The Pies (right) - A nearly always less-than-serious look at the latest happenings in the game, with extensive use of YouTube clips and bold colour photography. Euro 2008 is currently getting the treatment with sh*t lookalikes, Miss Euro 2008 and a clip of some bad coach driving (no, not Raymond Domenech in his 2CV but close).
YouTube - If you like to do your own video research, this site offers more than just an open mic for strangers soiling classic hits in their bedrooms. If you've missed a great goal, touchline tantrum or dodgy decision you can usually catch it here before it's hauled off by the copyright owners.
Football365 - the daddy of football sites boasts the consistently good Mediawatch (not even The Times escapes it's close scrutiny) and a well-fuelled forum that digresses from its topics with amusing regularity.
FootballShirtculture (left) - Old age and team allegience are no barrier to having an interest in the latest kits. Most of us have enough jerseys tucked away in the back of our wardrobes to cover the ceiling of a Tenerife sports bar. Liverpool's new away kit is the latest arrival - a retro grey number from the early 1990s.
Newsnow - It bills itself as the UK's No 1 news portal and is extremely useful if you want to gather the latest stories on your club or favourite player on one page. Sources include local newspapers, blogs and national dailys.
Fanbase - If you are looking for an independent view of your club this site is an excellent resource for fanzine sites and forums, plus merchandise and news websites.
Pyramid Passion (right) - If you think you love football, think again. Here is a site that goes beyond obsession with a wealth of photography and information about non-league football, but with a healthy dose of humour thrown in. Featuring galleries of dug-outs, floodlights, ground entrances and lawnmowers, no element of the amateur game is left out. It's a treasure trove for football nerds.
Mike Floate's Football Grounds Frenzy - The editor of this site ups the anorak factor with sections devoted to ghost grounds and pitched roof sunsets - the sort of topics that wouldn't be out of place being overheard during a group session in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
The Spoiler - another highly-touted site, it has it's tongue firmly in it's cheek as it embraces a Popbitch-style look at the beautiful game.
101 Great Goals (left) - a popular choice amongst those who posted their favourites sites below, this is the one-stop shop for goal highlights from around the globe. The copycats links dropdown list is a very nice touch - imitation being the sincerest form of flattery and all that.
kickette.com - another football gossip site which boasts that it is 'For those who love the players as much as they love the game'. Considering how many pretty boys (and WAGS) are on it, the author must be the biggest fan out there. It features plenty of pics and some fantastically wicked comments.
More of your favourite sites:
TEAMtalk.com - How could we forget this site? It was an accident. It's a comprehensive news and reader views site covering all 92 English league clubs, plus Europe, the MLS and major tournaments.
Hasta El Gol Siempre - fine-looking blog covering Argentinian football, but here's the twist - it's written by an Englishman. 'No way,' you say. Well, it's true and well worth a look.
Football Rumours - where 2+2=596. If you don't laugh, you'll cry.
Squad Info - News on teams in Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Scottish Premier.
The World Game - Neat and tidy Australian site covering the major competitions and the A-League.
twohundredpercent - football blog with an extensive and varied list of links.
The Offside - colourful mix of news, humour, opinion and polls specialising in North American football but covering all major teams and tournaments.
Football Italia - the best way to thank Channel 4 for bringing Serie A to British screens in 1992 is to recognise that they have an excellent site dedicated to Italian football. Unfortunately, it doesn't feature a desktop James Richardson eating a knickerbocker glory.
The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation - list of stattos from around the world whose goal, the site explains, is collecting all kind of statistics and making this information available to others.
European Football Forum - it's the Going For Gold of internet chat.
Soccerway - news and stats site covering the major European leagues.
Caught Offside - blog offering breaking news and transfer rumours.
Send in your favourites by adding a comment below.

The transfer rumours on 4thegame are fantastic - you even get to put your own whispers on there - I read it 5 times a day!

4thegame.com has been going strong for over 10 years i think....seems to cover all premier league stuff you need and is always good in transfer rumours

Avoid all football websites that talk rubbish. Arsenal sites to avoid are Le Grove and The Gooner Forum. Arseblog, Vital Arsenal, The Cannon, Gunnerblog and Young Guns. Also, avoid Football Fancast, Caught Offside, Sportingo and all of that crap. Daily mail, The Sun, Telegraph also missable.

Personally I think ESPN's SoccerNet is the best football website (http://www.soccernet.com). Some people are (unjustly) turned off it by its American ownership, but it's extremely comprehensive and authentic. It's my first port-of-call every morning for footy news, even before all the UK paper sites (The Times included, naturally).

This is a good little history site that's worth a gander every day -

This free-play fantasy football website allows you to pick your all-time team and play them within a competitive league table. It's the ultimate fantasy trip teaming-up players like Ronaldo, Cantona, Charlton and Best.

West Ham fans should pop by Knees up Mother Brown www.kumb.com which is a treasure trove of info, or you could always visit my blog http://foreverclaretandblue.wordpress.com

... and I'll be very surprised. These guys are bang on the money.

http://www.footballfancast.com is a great site. A fanzine on a podcast is a good, original idea and it is supported by some very good opinion pieces written on the homepage.

There are billions of Man United blogs out there but these are a couple of the best:
http://manutdblogger.com
http://therepublikofmancunia.com
Posted by: Dan | July 11, 2008 at 04:14 PM
http://www.talkfootball.co.uk for it's collection of stuff for kids as well as up to date opinions. A nice mix although it isn't exactly sure what its main purpose is, some decent stuff if a bit jumbled!
Posted by: Alan | July 11, 2008 at 03:39 PM
There are so few decent blog sites around but this one is definitely worth taking a look at, no rumours just decent writers
www.footballfancast.com

www.FootballFanCast.com is a great football site with well written articles and well presented fanzine podcasts.

I live on caughtoffside.com . I don't think any other website beats it on entertainment value. Cracking rumours and comments.

I recently came across the Euro Board and it is fantastic. It is an English speaking board but has posters from all around the world. So as well as discussing all things premiership there is also a lot of discussion about other leagues and national sides

There is a great football website where you can personalize your homepage so you can have at a glimpse all the stats for your favourite tournaments, teams and even players. Besides all the stats, they also have lots of good photos and live coverage for the matches of the main football leagues.
The address is http://www.golst.com
Posted by: Gerardo Molina | June 30, 2008 at 11:30 PM
Can't believe TEAMtalk hasn't been mentioned!
It's about the only site that actually updates daily - you can be waiting for a week to get new stories on some teams on the BBC and Sky but Tt has new stuff every single day. Top site.
Posted by: SmoggyDunk | June 28, 2008 at 03:28 PM
There is a new football site, it started with the Euro, with lots of information and stats from the main leagues. It is http://www.golst.com
One of the main advantages if this site is that you can personalise your homepage with data of your favorite teams, tournaments or even players. It also has lots of photos and live coverage of all the matches.

talkpork has a skewed view of football and more - all generated from the mental inferno that is the mind of radio presenter and sporting journo, Mike Parry
Posted by: Edwin Van Der Sheep | June 27, 2008 at 11:03 AM
It's got to be talkpork
A skewed view focussing primarily on football, then sport generally then anything goes - all from the perspective of football journo and radio presenter Mike Parry.

Channel 4's Football Italia website - www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia - is great for news of Serie A and Italian football. For an English language fan like me it is so easy to go there rather than trying to trawl through Italian sites trying to decypher the odd word here or there.
Some really interesting blogs on there as well which often have good angles on the latest stories in what, for me, is still the best league in Europe. Can't wait for next season with Mourinho & Co.
Posted by: Scot | June 25, 2008 at 05:26 PM
I'll try to look at some of the mentioned sites.
My favorite is www.rsssf.com
All football data is there!
Posted by: Pablo M | June 25, 2008 at 03:11 PM
I like some of the other sites listed here but for me, it has to be AbsolutelyUNITED. It's just a fantastic read.
Posted by: Jez | June 25, 2008 at 05:41 AM
How could you have overlooked The Offside (www.theoffside.com)? More than 70 club blogs, plus Euro and World Cup coverage. Easily the most in-depth and vast soccer blog in the world.

www.Redcafe.net has to be the best site out there, well for Manchester United fans. It's writers are often quoted in all the major news outlets all over the world.

I highly recommend Kitbag who I work with on some of my own football sites that I run.

If you're a football shirt collector like me, I recommend www.footballshirtculture.com, www.kitbag.com, www.subsidesports.com and footballfashion.wordpress.com.
Of course, the BBC and Yahoo sports football websites are musts for up to the minute news in the man's soap opera we call football.

The Spoiler, hands down.
Posted by: JB | June 20, 2008 at 11:44 AM
There's quite a few out there. Of the main ones the BBC is getting better but Sky Sports is just bland.
Football365 has Mediawatch which is great and their England at Euro 2008 is funny while Goal is good for foriegn news.
My favourite one though that you didn't mention is www.thespoiler.co.uk - they don't take themselves too seriously but consistently seem to report stories as they happen and there is also a lot of humour - some of the videos on their homepage at the moment crack me up.

SoccerAM.net is brilliant for football!! Its a massive forum started as a fansite for SoccerAM. But it has expanded to more than that and now has a great football discussion section full of lively banter and chit chat.
Can't recommend it enough!

Agree with Mr Blackett - TwoHundredPercent is probably the leading footy blog right now.
http://200percent.blogspot.com/
Otherwise I'm more interested in Fulham and there are plenty of decent blogs out there (including mine ;oD ) for us FFC fans. Rich at Craven Cottage Newsround (who also writes in the Times Fanzone section deserves credit as one of the best though. Well written and frequently updated.

Everything that happens in Scottish Football is in Scotzine.com

You overlooked one blog and that's EPL Talk.
The site is a surprising treasure trove of analysis of everything Premier League-related. I say 'surprising' because the blog is based in America.
The best bits of the site are the reviews and analysis of Premier League coverage that appear on TV, radio and online newspapers. The Times was recently reviewed at http://www.epltalk.com/best-british-newspapers-soccer-football-news
EPL Talk can be found at http://www.epltalk.com
