Transfer window countdown

Pablozabaletaap

With just under four days remaining before the end of the transfer window, we're here to keep you up to date with who's moving where. We'll bring you all the deals as they happen before the window slams shut on Monday.

To find out what happened yesterday, click here

5.26pm: Tick tock, tick tock - it's like a series of 24.  Just 4714 minutes left of this transfer window, and you can almost cut the excitement with a knife.  Not excited?  Shame on you.

5.13pm: Rafa Benitez confirms that he's closing in on Albert Riera, like a cheetah stalking a wounded gazelle.  The medical must have gone smoothly, then.

4.56pm: If this is the transfer merry-go-round, Berbatov is the transfer see-saw.  The German press is suggesting he might go to Bayern Munich.  Would Germany be a better place for the striker?  Actually, with his headband and scowl, the Bulgarian striker wouldn't appear out of place in one of those heavy German rock bands from the early 90s.

4.29pm: Blackburn agree to sign Mark Bunn, the Northampton 'keeper, for an undisclosed fee.  In May the Cobblers put a price tag of £1million on the man, so we can assume it might be somewhere around that mark.

4.14pm:  After an early flurry of activity, not a lot seems to be going on out there.  In fact, at the moment, more of the news is about who's not moving.  Ramon Calderon, Real Madrid president, could actually be right that Robinho will stay, and Sir Alex Ferguson is now "less optimistic" Berbatov will go to Old Trafford.

3.17pm: Following James Milner's departure, Kevin Keegan has promised fans some top signings to bolster the Magpies' injury-ravaged squad.  He hasn't got too long left, but he knows what he's doing.  "The secret is to pick the right ones," the Toon manager explained.  It takes a lifetime in the game to pick up secrets like that.

3.00pm: Right - there's now 3 days and 9 hours to go before this transfer window becomes an impenetrable wall, and it's all gone a bit quiet out there.  Too quiet.

2.41pm:  Derby County are not happy.  Apparently Marseille offered to take Tyrone Mears on a free loan, but Mears has two years on his contract and Derby have no intention of letting him go.  They described the offer as "unacceptable and laughable".  Still, if you don't ask, you don't get...

But wait, there's more: it was reported that Mears climbed through a window and then crawled past Paul Jewell's office at Derby's training ground to escape, before flying to the French club for a trial.  Rams chairman Adam Pearson has said Mears will be disciplined "in the most severe way possible".  Early bed and no supper for him, then.

1.53pm: Stoke have reportedly signed Ibrahima Sonko for £2million from Reading, subject to a medical.  So Sonko may play against his cousin - Arsenal's Bacary Sagna.  Tony Pulis, Stoke manager, has apparently also put in a £5million offer on Joe Ledley, but cash-strapped Cardiff aren't selling.  Yet.

12.20pm: Well, it was always going to happen, and we've been covering it more fully elsewhere on the site - but anyway, James Milner is now definitely confirmed as having signed a four-year deal with Villa for an undisclosed fee.  The guess is that it's about £12million.  Read about it in full here.

12.12pm: Bolton may be bringing Euzebiusz 'Ebi' Smolarek, the Polish striker, to the club on a one-year loan from Racing Santander.  He was named after the Portugese great Eusebio, and in Euro 2008 qualifiers last year Smolarek scored twice against Portugal in a shock 2-1 win.  That was Poland's first win against Portugal since the 1986 World Cup - when Smolarek's father Wlodzimierz scored the only goal in a 1-0 win.  It's a funny old game, eh?

11.37am: West Brom's Robert Koren will stay at the club, having signed a new two-year contract. The 27-year-old Slovenia international follows team-mate Paul Robinson in committing himself to the Baggies. Koren was Mowbray's first signing for the club in 2007.

10.56am: Robinho has been taking part in a Real Madrid training session this morning. Well, why wouldn't he?

10.53am: Espanyol look set to lose another of their star players to the Premier League as Albert Riera undertakes a medical at Liverpool.  Espanyol have accepted a fee for the left-sided winger, thought to be about £8million.

10.39am: Everton have announced they have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United striker Louis Saha, subject to a medical, for an undisclosed fee.  Let's hope the medical goes without a hitch - he seems to have been plagued by injuries in the past, poor lad.

10.17am: Manchester City have been given the green light to talk with Pablo Zabaleta (above), the Espanyol and Argentina defender, after the Premier League team met his €8million contract buy-out price. "Until this moment, Espanyol have tried to convince Zabaleta to continue in Barcelona, but the defender has shown his determination to continue his career in the Premier League," a statement from the Spanish club said.

Ferg knew the potential Saha could have brought to the united lineup. He would have been out a lot sooner if not. It's just a shame about all the injuries.

Looks like Everton have finally managed to bring in some quality this summer, tho not sure that it will prove to be enough to replace Cars and the other boys who have left. Once done we just need to make the biggest signing - get Moyes on a new contract quick!

Hey guys, I'm writing from Barcelona. It's great to see you people stay on top of the news, I wish we'd do it so thoroughly here with what's happening somewhere else...
Cheers

All the best for Saha.......would have been a United legend if he hadn't been plagued by injuries......here's hoping this is a fresh start for him and he can do he business for Everton.

Great signing for City. Zabaleta's a quality player who's just won the Olympics. He's going to do extremely well at City and will have no problems settling in seeing as Riera's moving nearby.
