Is this the worst miss you have ever seen?
Scotland were held to a goalless draw by Norway at Hampden Park on Saturday in what had been viewed as a must-win World Cup qualifying match for George Burley's side.
The Tartan Army were not amused, but they certainly could be nothing other than bemused at how the Bravehearts failed to find the net as Chris Iwelumo, on debut, managed to somehow shoot wide from all of three yards.
Haven't seen it for yourself yet? Then feast your eyes on this YouTube clip and marvel at the way the Wolverhampton Wanderers striker manages to bend the ball just the wrong side of the post. If you hadn't seen it with your own eyes you would scarcely believe it, though in truth similar mishaps occur every other week in the Times Online's five-a-side games, and sometimes from even closer in.
Poor Iwelumo may have tried to take the positives out of his glaring miss, but we want to know what you think. Does he have an international future (especially now that Kris Boyd has announced his international retirement) and what gets your vote as the worst miss of all time?

Talking about misses?
There you go: My favourite is Gomez in the euro08 game Germany against Austria

Looks like he was a little too anxious and didn't have his feet positioned well to take the shot.
Chalk it up to nerves.

His inability to look along the line and see how far offside he was is far more unforgiveable and has probably been overlooked by the furore surrounding the miss.

Roger Davies of Derby County v Chelsea (?)
Beat the goalkeeper all ends up, and with the goal at his mercy, drove the ball against the post.
Circa 1973-74 I recall.

Gigg's miss against Arsenal in the FA Cup 2003 has to go down as one of the worst. Open net and he managed to sky it over the bar. Couldn't beleive it!

Chris Iwelumo has previous form in this type of glaring miss.
When on loan at York City in 2000, during a 3rd round FA Cup tie against Premiership side Leicester City, the same striker had the chance to win the tie, but missed an open goal after beating the off-side trap and rounding the keeper.
Nice to see he hasn't changed.

Ronny Rosenthal Vs Aston Villa 1992. The Liverpool striker was clean through with no one on him and still hit the bar

Circa 1980 at Ayresome Park, I saw a Boro striker ( Name withheld!!) hit the underside of the bar when the ball was on the goal line aginst Arsenal.
The same striker also managed to scoop a second chance over the bar from an almost identical position.

Ah! Poor Scots! It's not every day you see someone miss as horribly as that. It's almost as if he was trying to place the ball in the upper corner instead of placing it easily in the middle of the net. As we footballers say "God gave you a left foot for a reason!"
