Top sporting rants - From Keegan to Taylor

After Joe Kinnear's tirade against the press yesterday we thought it would be fun to remember some other sporting rants with varying levels of cussing and moaning.

GrahamtaylorempicsGraham Taylor, 1993
Here's how you get your point across to the media without turning the air blue. The England manager took exception to the negative attitude towards his team from the press before the crucial World Cup qualifier with Holland, telling journalist Rob Shepherd: "I cannot have faces like yours round about me." Watch the exchange here.

However, Taylor turned potty mouthed during the 2-0 defeat which saw England fail to qualify for the 1994 tournament.

Kevin Keegan, 1996
The Newcastle United manager could also lose his rag without resorting to expletives. He famously attacked Sir Alex Ferguson in a post-match interview responding to what he believed were psychological ploys used by the Manchester United manager as both teams battled for the Premier League title. Watch him here.

Neil Warnock, 1995
Renowned for his short temper, the Yorkshireman gave full value for money in a half-time team talk when manager of  Huddersfield Town. He prepares for his meltdown like a boxer readying himself to enter the ring. Watch him steam up the camera with his anger here.

John Sitton, 1995
The former Leyton Orient forgot all about the documentary cameras when he sacked one of his players at half-time and then offered to fight two more after a miserable defeat. He makes Warnock look like a pussycat. Watch him go bananas umpteen times here.

Having a major tantrum is not confined to football. Here is another instance of sport personalities losing their rag:

Ian Millward, 2003
The former St Helens coach used 30 profanities in less than five minutes after a home match against Hull. He alleged that “powers that be” were conspiring against his side in the after-match press conference. Read the transcript of his outburst here.

One from the USA you might not know about, from 1983, when the Chicago Cubs still did not have lights at Wrigley Field, so all of their games were played during the day (including weekdays). After one bad loss, manager Lee Elia went berserk in a postgame press conference, launching into a five-minute rant in which he set a land-speed record for most "f-bombs" dropped, and also observed that "85% of the world works for a living, the other 15% come here."

The best rant would have to be Trapattoni's dressing down of the bayern players at a post-match conference.

Even in german and subtitles, you get the feeling he was not a happy man....

I guess we'll need to find a space for Roy Kinnear now...
