Rivals' transfer news: Manchester City target £30m Zarate deal

Zarate185x185The pick of the rumours from today's other newspapers, and our view on just how probable they are.

City target £30m Zarate deal - The Daily Telegraph
The agent representing the Argentine forward claims Manchester City want to sign him.

Verdict: 4 (out of ten)
An interesting link. The forward is on loan from Al-Sadd of Qatar at Lazio, where he has an impressive scoring record.

Newcastle turn down Barton £2m bid - The Guardian
Joe Kinnear has rejected Portsmouth's offer for the troubled midfielder.

Verdict: 5
Makes perfect sense all around, and the starting bid is at a level expected.

Spurs' Kenywne bid KO'd - The Sun
Sunderland have turned down Harry Redknapp's £6m offer for the forward.

Verdict: 4
Kenwyne Jones should not be of the class that Tottenham are targeting. They need a left winger, centre back and back-up goalkeeper

Mart just not Shor - The Sun
Nicky Shorey has been told he can leave Aston Villa only five months after joining the club.

Verdict: 7
The left back joined in the summer, but has not been able  cement down the left back position. He has played 12 league matches but Villa have used Luke Young recently.

Moyes moves in for Hearts duo - Daily Mirror
The Everton manager hopes to sign Christophe Berra and Andrew Driver from the Scottish club.

Verdict: 6
Everton are looking for a left winger after failing to sign Joe Ledley, the Cardiff City, in the summer, so Andrew Driver makes sense.

Hermann off to join Hoops - Daily Mirror
Hermann Hreidarsson, the Portsmouth defender, is set to join Celtic in a £500,000 deal.

Verdict: 6
The defender has asked to leave, so makes plenty of sense.
