Sarah Palin in pictures and video

By Nico Hines

Photoshopped! A familiar refrain and a common tool for mocking the political elite - with Sarah Palin, however, it can be quite tricky to work out which of the pictures in circulation are real.

Sitting on a giant dead bear. Real.

With_dead_bear

Wearing a t-shirt that reads "I May Be Broke, But I'm Not Flat Busted". Real (I think).

Bustytshirt

Standing with a glass of wine. Faked.

Sarahpalinhot_2

But standing in a tiara and sash. Real.

As_miss_wassila

She will pose with a gun. Real.

But not by the pool. Faked.

Bikinipoolii

As a family blog - we are steering well clear of the faked naked pictures of the VP candidate.

But here she is laughing as shockjocks make cancer gags about a cancer-surviving opposition politician. Edited but apparently real.

Seemingly boss-eyed but still managing to read the sports results off the autocue. Real.

Not enough to be gun toting mum to qualify for an incredibly important post. From all accounts, Mrs Palin has not been properly vetted by her own party!

Assuming she wins with McCain, it is safe to say that she might land in the White House if not so-young, 73-yr old McCain decides to kick the bucket. In that respect, it is Sen Joe Biden's responsibility to vet her thoroughly before Americans vote. Let the debates begin!

Biden must ask her tough but important questions on foreign policy, the global economy, the environment as well as war and peace, the Palestinian and Israel question, the Iran issue, the Caucasus problem; she must explain how she intends to deal with the Afghanistan problem; how she intends to hunt down Osama bin Laden and wipe out the Al Qaeda; she must explain her stand on all these questions and a lot more.

And when she finally goes through the Biden vetting process, Palin, who styles herself as a shooter from the hip must not play it coy under intense scrutiny by bringing up the female/woman/mummy card ...

Palin wants to be seen as a gun toting VP with one foot into the White House? Then let's see how well she reacts under fire from John Biden...

From one gun-toting mum to another, I say, bring it on Mrs Palin!

Get a life.

Posted by: TC | 3 Sep 2008 15:17:52

@ 3rd column....I would like to see Biden answer those questions but first I'd like to see Obama answer them. To date the media luvvies haven't asked one hard question of Obama. I'm not interested in what's on his ipod or what his favourite food is or his pet name for his wife. The outpouring of venom and lies from the media against Palin has been nothing short of a disgrace. She was never a member of the Alaska Independence Party and she was fully vetted. Bring it on...you bet!!!!!!!

Posted by: TC | 3 Sep 2008 15:28:34

Well, 3rd Column, apparently you don't vet your own comments or know what is going on! The Democractic nominee for VP is JOE Biden, not John. Let's start over, shall we?

Posted by: Andrew | 3 Sep 2008 16:24:06

The only question she needs to be asked is "do you believe in logical deduction from irrefutable evidence or that the world was created 6,000 years ago?"

To have a leader of the most technologically advanced country in the world believing in fairy tales would really end US dominance. Maybe that's a good thing?

Posted by: John Small | 3 Sep 2008 16:56:40

She will wipe the floor with Biden. His foreign policy credentials amount to having backed the war in Iraq, then having voted against the surge, and instead wanting to break up Iraq into three separate units, which would certainly have resulted in civil war. The man lacks consistency, judgment and courage; he is a Washington hack and a dangerous fool.

3rd. column? 5th column!

Sexism is alive and well, I see... doesn't matter what a woman accomplishes, her looks are always a focal point.
Do us womenfolk get to see swimsuit-clad Obama pictures??
You can spare us the photoshopped McCain swimsuit pics though - I don't think anyone, male or female, wants to go there...

Posted by: MB | 3 Sep 2008 17:27:13

i think that some people that desire an Obama orgasm would be well advised to steer clear of the mockery.
every time Palin is mocked in California and New York others will also be mocked, many others.
whether in error or judgement, i believe she will proove a blessing to the McCain cause.

what is The Times doing posting faked pictures of Ms Palin? it is totally disrespectful and unethical.

Posted by: Mark | 3 Sep 2008 18:12:49

Gun loving mother of 5, who believes the world was made in 7 days, thinks evolution is a joke in spite of all the scientific evidence? Must be awfully tough running a state with all the oil revenue... and how many times has she travelled abroad?

Please, Biden show her a map of the world and ask her to name some of the countries, capitals, and maybe leaders...

I'm no doctor but I'm fairly sure senility and dementia have finally caught up with McCain....

Posted by: Tom | 3 Sep 2008 18:15:33

I am astounded that The Times has sunk so low as to publish this trash. I had to look twice that I clicked on the correct web address. Can you go any lower? I think not. Disgust is not a strong enough adjective to describe my thoughts regarding this once respectible publication. The Times is now officially junk. And I'm sure this won't be published, but somebody is going to read it. Whoever does read this, you should be very ashamed of working for such an organization and have no self-respect.

Posted by: Marcella | 3 Sep 2008 18:15:34

How could anyone expect anything else from the NY slimes. I only regret their building didn't get targeted, but then again they are the terrorists best friends in this country.

Posted by: expect nothing else | 3 Sep 2008 19:47:12

McCain and MILF '08!!!! She is hot and can be VP of my country any day. Who cares if she doesn't have much experience? She's easy on the eyes!!! I love you Sarah!!

Posted by: Shawn | 3 Sep 2008 21:29:28

I hope that she is not exploited by the Republican Party. Can she play hard ball with the big boys? Will she have "Mommy time" as VP? Why hasn't she given any interviews after being announced. Why is she being kept in seclusion? I think she will be a big disappointment to women everywhere. She already is ducking for cover. Why didn't she state in an interview (if she would have given one) about her daughter. Why did she let that break on the internet? Not a good show of judgement. Then again, when you show her as a gun toting Hot momma that will definitely get the redneck vote. Through out her stand on issues, policy, etc. Seems like alot of distractions for a VP. 5 kiddos, one with special needs and a 17 year old daughter pregnant.

Posted by: Marilyn | 3 Sep 2008 21:29:58

MY O MY ! All it takes for the reptile vote is to parade out a gun toting hot momma. Throughout stance on issues, policies, credentials. You can add to the "Gun Toting Hot Momma" title Book Banner too. She wanted to ban books in the library of the town she was mayor of. She weiled her power to threaten to fire the librarian and workers. Wow she is more creepier than DICK!

Posted by: Marilyn | 3 Sep 2008 21:33:09

How about we try something really novel in these United States? We keep the biased media OUT of anything that has to do with presidential and vice presidential candiates and the media report actual NEWS. And you, the United States resident, actually make a informed decision on the candiates, (vs. getting news your news from the biased media talking heads and the grocery rags). Original idea, hardly, but sadly most of the democratic population has chosen to become as ignorant as their leaders.
Use your heads folks, its not too late to really see Obama for what he is!

Sarah is the 800 pound gorilla, she will send those anti-american weak kneed pathetic whimps (Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Yomamma) Packin!

Rock on baby, bring America back to what made it great!

Posted by: yuri | 4 Sep 2008 00:59:29

If by "all accounts" you mean the far left and her opponents. Then you would be correct. However, she was subjected to a 6 month vetting process.

Posted by: Joe | 4 Sep 2008 01:01:55

I believe Sarah Palin will be a great VP? She is a strong women,She may have 5 kids and a grand-baby in the way. Look at the world today everyone makes mistakes and having a baby young only makes you stronger!!! But in the real world ... We need some one LIKE sarah to help the place!! Keep Your head Up Sarah you have my vote!!!

Posted by: Lilac | 4 Sep 2008 02:05:16

This is a lady after heart. McCain couldn't have dreamed up a better counterpart to foil Rasputin, an Alaskan beauty queen who can put him on, above or under the table as she requires. If the USA electorate has any smarts, they will see the talent. The old nemesis wants some respect, wants to play chess with America again, share the world, so what is wrong with this mate? And by the way, we never did get to see Dick Cheney in trunks by the pool or in his shorts or in his bare feet or how about a close up on his shoes and socks like what you media showed Hillary's I don't know how many times.

Posted by: Linda Dial | 4 Sep 2008 02:30:08

Family should be off limits without question, but when your political stance on sex education for youths is simply the belief of abstinence, well well. If only Mama Palin would have taught her daughter about contraceptives, maybe, just maybe her daughter would not be in the situation she's in. Kids are going to have sex no matter what they are told, so why not educate yours on the matter Gov. Palin.

Posted by: John Cross | 4 Sep 2008 07:15:43

It is so low.

Posted by: JetMpls | 4 Sep 2008 09:11:39

Really impressed by this gutsy lady.
I wonder what venom the pro Obama media and supporters would come up with in their desperation.

Posted by: marianne | 4 Sep 2008 11:00:17

All this is kind of funny, don't you think? All week long the Times was deriding her and McCain's plundering choosing of her as his VP. But after her speech last night the Times are now calling Palin America's "Margaret Thatcher"! The democrats must be chomping nails.

Posted by: Jenny | 4 Sep 2008 12:38:14

If you are a McCain/Palin supporter, the best thing coming up is the debate or debates between Biden and Palin. Unlike Bush, who mangles the language, Biden is the knock-down champ of uttering the inappropriate. He cannot help himself. He will be condescending and buffoonish, and he will win the debates for her, even if she falls asleep right up there on the dais. In the language of the hour, Obama better "vet" that probability,

Posted by: Dan | 4 Sep 2008 12:47:36

Hey Alex Bratcher - she can't control her own home ? - Did your mother know when you lost your cherry? Does that make her a bad mother - When have you NOT made a mistake; does that make you a failure? Grow Up and start to think for a change. No matter what your parents teach you, you will not always do it. Were you not once a child; So were your parents bad?
Look to your Obama, he came out and told the press to lay off Palin's family and they did not listen. So is Obama a failure as he cannot even control the press who adore him. Going by your logic, if the press ignores Obama's plea to stop the Family attacks and they do not listen, then he can't contol the media, so how can he control a country or even talk to terrorists.
You guys better come up with better counter attacks then the typical ones. Think critically for a change and leave the bias etc. at home - MRS SMITH is GOING TO WASHINGTON ! - If you do not know what I mean by that, then look back at history. If you want to discuss politics, then bring it up to an educated level and leave the generalizations and other fallacies where they belong.

Posted by: Buzzer | 4 Sep 2008 13:11:18

Hey, Third Column, who vetted plagiarist Joe?

Heck, who vetted leftist god Al Gore? Your favorite president only met him once before he nominated Gore as his VP.

Posted by: Skydiver | 4 Sep 2008 15:03:16

EXPECT NOTHING ELSE - Do you know what newspaper you are reading? This is not the New York Times, but THE Times, printed daily in London.

This is a sad day for educated women in the US - the only woman the Republican party could come up with is a bigoted, book banning, ex- beauty queen. She deserves all she gets with these and other pictures. She is the one who chose to use her looks to her advantage.

Face it It is over for you you anti Feminist Liberal Butchers.. Republicans walk the walk and talk the talk! You Liberals say you are for the feminist movement... Face it you are all Losers and Barrack and Biden are the biggest Losers of all!

I Predict Palin will be our President in 2012

Bite that and swallow it Liberal Pigs... Why don't you take California and start you own little Russia!

Posted by: Frank X | 4 Sep 2008 17:29:44

Biden? Isn't that the guy who tried to smear now Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas? Biden is a racist pig.

Posted by: Superpower | 4 Sep 2008 18:00:11

She did great. Sally Quinn and Gloria Steinem were squirming in their arrogant
putdown over her....they ooze with elitism.

Isn't a strong, confident career woman with
a family, seeking to better her nation what
they fought for?

Oh wait, she's a conservative Republican.

Like Clarence Thomas, a conservative
Republican minority or woman is like
kryptonite to the elite liberals in the USA.

They seek not to investigate her life and
politics - they really do seek to destroy her
completely.

Thank you for noting the Times is posting
photoshop pictures as if that's 'news'.

I am saddened to see how low our mainstream normally liberal media at home
has stooped on Palin: rumor as 'news',
inuendo as 'news', and fake pictures as
'news'.

Jann Werner and the Clinton pals at the
Nat.Enq. executive suites are going after
with all they can make up and print up.
US Weekly voted for Obama.

If those are his pals, if that's what it takes
for Barack Obama, brilliant guy that he is,
to get elected - no thanks.

I'll stick with the two people who have experience, guts, and a desire to cut taxes
and keep our nation safe & strong.

Not two guys who genuinely love hearing
themselves talk, and not much more.

Obama is right. The country needs change. In choosing Govenor Palin as his vice president, he has already started that change.

Posted by: Syne | 4 Sep 2008 18:22:55

What do you mean,"She is the one who chose to use her looks to her advantage."? Should she have worn a paper sack over her head at the convention?

Posted by: Syne | 4 Sep 2008 18:27:32

Now I have an even better reason to vote for McCain.I knew I was not going to vote for a man who will not respect the flag that represents our country. I now have two good reasons to vote for McCain and it is Sarah Palin. I beleive this women has down to earth experiences and knows what it is like to work for a living. I beleive she is a candidate of the people and for the people. I am glad she can shoot, right now our country needs warriors not some one who talks a good Bible but lives the life. McCain has the experience of faith, Obama has the words. Who are you going to count on when the chips are down?

Posted by: Suddenlystupid | 4 Sep 2008 18:56:13

Please, TRUTH HURTS, how can you be so obtuse? Who are you to judge Sarah Palin's home life unless your's is perfect? Anyone living has struggles of their own to bare. Did you know all of our governing candidates have family lives?

Truth, our past president, Mr CLinton, unfortunately was tooooo busy with his personal affairs to run our country.

Truth can hurt, but truth can only be measured by facts, not words. She's proven that she can lead, and our country needs change in actions and deeds, not empty words.

Hopeful

I was so impressed with Sarah Palin last night and her beautiful family - until she launched into that nasty, sarcastic and poor attempt at humor against Obama. I am not an Obama fan, however, I will vote for the candidate who can talk about the issues and not personal attacks. I am so tired of hearing about what's wrong with the other guy and not about what they will do as President. Did Rush or Cheney write that speach?

Posted by: Judy | 4 Sep 2008 21:46:12

Corporations run the world politicians are bought and sold like ball-players. Interesting that McCains VP is Governor of Alaska, home of the largest oil reserve in the US. Follow the money. Big contracts Big money Lies to the public. Nothing new. Wake up America

Two of the above videos seem to have been removed from youtube. Censorship I wonder?

Posted by: nick | 5 Sep 2008 00:15:02

I am also for the best candidate, however it's hard to try and believe that voting republican is the way for change. If all the same republicans that voted Bush in twice are now telling me that McCain and Palin are the best candidates, There's no way I can take their word for it. So I researched for myself and found that McCain Voted with Bush 90% of the time. That does not sound like change. I'm not rying to be an A-hole but i would really like to know, in detail what kind of change McCain and Palin will bring. Details and not the the same old rhetoric please.

First I am a canadian "yes with a small c" because canadians aren't really proud to be canadians. But my comment is about Gov. Palin as VP is simple. Go for It. You got the brains, and the moxy to take on big business and Oil and win. Congrats. She ran her house, her city and her state. Now we know she can run the country if need be. Lets see some of you pinheads run for office instead of just slinging mud. As for her daughter, which should be a hands off issue, teens have hormones and feelings too, what Bristol did is Bristol and her famiys business. The one thing that bugs most people I think, is that Sarah Palin has more balls than most men in washington, and she's honest. Gee an honest politician, what a switch. Good luck and May God be with you all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Posted by: Leo | 5 Sep 2008 13:42:47

3rd Column
You are absolutely right. What is terrifying about Palin is how parochial she is. I don't know if the other side can answer those questions either. And if Americans are not supposed to teach Sex Ed or use contraception and women lose control of their reproductive health their health will be in the dark ages again. Multiple pregnancies do that. Early childbearing also stops education in its tracks and keeps people in dreadful poverty. Unless you are wealthy and live in frontiers ville Alaska.
Poor health has a terrible financial effect on the whole society. It would send America down towards third world hell holes. And all because some people cannot imagine what it might be like to be someone else.
Religion and politics need to stay well apart. Where is knowledge where is judgement from anyone? If America wants to be parochial fine but then don't ask the rest of the world to pick up the tab or demand that we do with threats and menaces.

Posted by: Pip | 5 Sep 2008 14:00:02

Let's learn more about her instead of giving knee jerk reactions. I was leaning toward democrat because I am disabled and a senior and times are hard. Initially I thought it was a pretty cynical move by McCain. But she's not just fluff, there is substance to her. With her as a possible Pres. maybe I can stand "four more years". I'm not starving yet. I think we overlook too much when we think "Alaska". There's the oil of course but there are racial ramifications that have to be looked at. If the native Alaskans consented to a female governor, there must be more to her than we are seeing in this short time.
Bringing up her daughter's pregnancy is hypocrisy. In this day and age it is a given, some parents even greet the news with happiness and delight. Frowning on a girl who is going to marry the father, said father actually appearing in public, is beneath us as a people. How many unborn babies do we allow to be destroyed? C'mon folks, let's think rationally; these are difficult times, we should make a thought out decision.
I especially like the bear and crab shot.

Posted by: Alikospah Wayakn | 5 Sep 2008 19:23:07

What's with all the attacks on the Times for posting the fake pictures? Seems to me they are doing a conservative/Republican service showing that these photos are fakes!

Posted by: Fred Farg | 5 Sep 2008 21:57:10

Why are there no everyday-type people in US politics? No "Average Joes"? Why do you need to be a millionaire to get into the White House? You have to be wealthy to have a brain? Why do some many "law-abiding" people there believe they should be able to carry guns. Didn't the Wild West end about 1899? Why do so many of them not have a clue about the rest of the world when getting the kids through college is such a big thing there? Are they taught nothing? It's bizarre. I have fondness for the country and the people but find their way of life increasingly odd.

Posted by: Hugh Brissam | 6 Sep 2008 00:53:57

I don't know any of the candidates. The media is split and the hopefull's own pages of course are biased. All of you bloggers and Americans out there are making decisions based on faith. We don't really know what McCain said at the Hilton, we don't know for fact how Obama rose so quickly for the Dems, we are unaware of how Palin speaks of "minorities" in the comfort of her own home nor do we really know Joe's heart. All we know is what other folks write or say aloud about other Americans in what amounts to in truth be a popularity contest.

I hate that but am blessed by the revelation that something as simple as picking the person most qualified for the job is able to reveal the deep fractures and factions within one country. Some of us are too proud to fess up to our own prejudice and allow this to cloud our decision making process in a dynamic which will set the tone for the reality of our children's tomorrow.

Now you die hard Elephants ask yourself this question. Why am I a Republican? A conservative? Have I ever analyzed those words and their socioeconomic implications? Do I really believe in trickle down economics? Do I have a problem shareing the benefits of blessings which in truth God's passed on to us to ease the suffering of others?

To you donkeys I put it this way. Am I a Democrat because I've been taught that this party is the one for me or have they really done things to further the cause of social justice? Am I too loose with the people's money? Do I wish the candidates to pander to my vices or make the right decision?

At any rate we all should ask ourselves if it is time to make a statement to the world about what the United States of America has come to represent?

Posted by: oneearthchild | 6 Sep 2008 01:01:21

Politics are all smoke and mirrors. Get over the fact that any of these individuals will do anything other than line their pockets with taxpayers money. The President simply set the tone of the country and the rest is accomplished by the lobbyists and grunts who can get to their ears and twist them with cash. Lets talk about the economy and what will be necessary for change. Lets talk about health care and what will be necessary for change. Lets talk about the children in our country dying of malnutrition. Lets talk about the hospital back wards filled with indigent mentally ill patients and their deplorable living conditions due to slashed budgets. Lets talk about the thousands of mentally retarded and mentally ill who are care for by individuals who make less than minimum wage. How about we talk about the thousands of vets returning home from Iraq, Afgan., suffering from brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, ptsd and the like. Change? Give me a break. Its all talk, both sides, where is the change? We are the catalysts and once we can all agree then we not them will make the difference. Get off your assess and lets help someone we don't know. Stop looking past your noses for change instead start it from within.

My bet is those gals fretting here openly about Sarah's sex life are ones who've no sex life of their own; they're probably Gloria Steinem type frustrated crones.

Catholic myself I prefer Sarah with her strong Fundamentalist Protestant faith than Biden's nearly anything goes liberal Catholicism.

Posted by: Dave Livingston | 6 Sep 2008 03:02:23

Has everyone forgotten about the past eight years? Do ALL Republicans make so much money that they don't need to worry about the economy? Remember all the promises that Bush made you guys and you fell for it twice. It's a known fact that McCain and Palin are using Bush's speech writers. Same voice different puppets. What are you really voting for. It's got to be religion, the fear of government, and the right to carry concealed weapons because it sure in hell is not for the economy. Hmmm maybe it's race.

hillblogger3 (aka 3rd Column) is some kind of disease.

Posted by: Sune | 6 Sep 2008 06:38:50

I do not think that Sarah Palin's experience (or the lack thereof) is an issue AT ALL!

Let's put it this way... if you are a voter voting on "experience" alone, you can either vote for the Republican ticket whereby you MAY get an inexperienced president should McCain kick the bucket, or you can vote for the Democratic ticket where you are GUARANTEED someone (OBAMA) just as inexperienced, if not more so, in the oval office from day 1.

If all you care about is experience the choice is clear -- McCain-Palin gives you experience upfront and a small chance of an inexpereinced VP ascending the presidency. An inexperienced Palin -- may I add -- who can pick a very experienced VP if necessary. Obama-Biden guarantees complete inexperience in the driver's seat from day 1.

Besides, inexperienced or not, Sarah has the right heart and believes in my opinion. And, I am not talking about religion, abortion or sex; I am an atheist male and I don't care about religion, abortion or sex. I am talking about a capitalist conviction and a believe in minimal government and low taxation. OBAMA adds to his inexperience, an unmistakable and extremist leaning towards socialism, wealth redistribution, wantonly progressive taxation and a nanny state.

As a 1st generation immigrant, I can say this... I DID NOT IMMIGRATE TO AMERICA TO LIVE IN A SOCIALIST UTOPIA where you work 6 months of a year to pay the government for a promise of universal healthcare, public education, nationalized retirement and public housing -- that is if you can get a job given the double digit unemployment typical of such societies. If I had wanted that nonsense I would have gone to pink Europe instead! Give me private schools, capitalistic healthcare and an on your own society anyday. Thank you.

Dwight government is going to be in your life no matter who is in office. Who passed the patriot act? The Republicans. And i'm getting taxed out of my ass for a war that is not needed. What are you really voting for?

Everyone needs to stop saying that they agree with Palin on issues because she has only given three real speeches and she repeats the same diarrhea of the mouth, conservative, evangilistic, million dollar splurging, southern state brain washing rhetoric.

Posted by: Wake Up | 6 Sep 2008 20:38:33

I USED to be a LIberal Democrat. That once great party has been hijacked by socialist-in-disguise radicals who are extremely intolerant, and have abandoned American values. They are weak against terrorists, yet strong against "made in the USA babies". They removed God and Christianity from our culture and replaced it with socialist - like big government, and a "faux-religion" based on "junk science". (Global Warming). These misguided folks usually blame America First for every thing, and have recently shown their true chauvinist colors by insulting Hillary, and selecting an incompetent, dangerous, media created neophyte rookie named Obama. I believe that a team that plays against itself, cannot win.
The Dems have a partisan microphone called the Liberal Mainstream Media, and they are concealing Barack Hussein Obama's true intentions, his past, and his poor judgement in associating with terrorists (W. Ayers), anti-semites and black Muslims (L. Farakhan, and Jeremiah Wright), socialists (B. Dhorn), communists (Frank Marshall Davis), etc. Obama wants to surrender in Iraq, dismantle our nukes, and greatly weaken our nation's defenses by vastly cutting back on future research and development of our weapons systems. No wonder every one of America's enemies wants this man to be president! He is such an appeaser that he may as well be working for them. One more recent example of Obama's horrible judgment was throwing Mrs. Clinton under the bus, instead of on his team. Why is Obama so afraid of strong, intelligent women? McCain sure is'nt! :)
I find it fascinating to watch McCain deliver the CHANGE and reform America needs. He is fearless, and loves this country and it's people. The Democrats can only promise things, then DON'T deliver! The lying Dems promised national healthcare in the 90's. Then they promised gays there would be reform in the military for them. Then they promised to get our soldiers out of Iraq. They swore that Hillary would become the next president, Folks, I don't know about you, but I'm tired of being bamboozled. Like we say in Puerto Rico: "Tonto, tonto pero no tanto". Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me 3 times, and that makes me a mind-numbed robot fanatic who cannot think for himself.
I much prefer to vote for the ONLY man on the stage who has truly fought for America, and the only woman (Sarah Palin) who has more achievements than NOBAMA, and has the talent, drive, and integrity to deliver the goods to the People. It now turns out that the best man for the job is a woman, and the Liberal Democrats are fit to be tied. Now the SS ObamaNation has been struck by an Alaskan iceberg and is taking on water. Vote McCain not Hussein in November." Vote for Sarah, and John: " Two Maveric Reformers For The Price Of One!"

Sarah, you go girl! You are the best thing that has happened to this country in a long long time. I am so excited about this election now. you are a star and we love you.

If Palin were a man she would not be standing as a VP nominee ... we all know that is true. It is a blatant attempt to use her gender. Selecting her because she is a woman is the most blatant sexist insult. "Hey guys look at how popular that Clinton Chick is, have we got one of those that we could use against the black guy?"

She is no Clinton and no Thatcher. What has happened to us?

Posted by: Whitelilies | 6 Sep 2008 22:37:48

I used to belieive that women should stay home and watch the kids and make sure my dinner was ready when i got home. I also believed that no woman could ever run this country cause they are too weak. But Palin has changed my views. I've learned so much from this past week and women need to be treated as equals. Palin is a hard working woman who is real. I can relate to her. She has a good job and she pays her own insurance and she owns houses. Her teenager daughter got pregnant and so did two of mine. She is real. I can't understand why these liberals dont get it.

Posted by: Southern Heart | 7 Sep 2008 00:08:48

I wonder if the Times has run any faked sexist pictures of men lately?

Posted by: James Dill | 7 Sep 2008 10:55:54

Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air over here. She has a solid record of accomplishment. Obama has never run a city, never run a state, never run a business, never been responsible for a budget, never been responsible for a profit.

Palin is a Governor, not a lowly Senator. What's is hilarious, though is you got Obama, the messiah of the left, and instead of attacking our Presidential candidate, he's going at our VICE Presidential candidate! Weak, weak, weak!

Someone questioned Governor Palin's vetting process, by the GOP. They started vetting her back in May. Just because they didn't let the corrupt American media know they were vetting her, doesn't mean she wasn't.

She will be our first lady Vice President, and our first lady President.Quite frankly, in one speech this woman galvanized the entire Republican party. We have thirsted for someone like her since we lost Ronald Reagan.

Who knew the next Ronald Reagan would look nice in a skirt, and heels!

From what she has said publicly she does not appear to be a young earth 7 day creationist she probably believes in an old earth following on from the act of creation called the big bang (now get round that one).

She also probably accepts evolution but not the Darwinian process of evolution. But then nether does the Freeman Dyson the physics Noble Prise winner and quite a lot of others for purely scientific reasons.

Would leftists please get there facts right before hurling crude abuse at a society that has produced by far the largest number of Noble Prices in the sciences

I am disgusted with what I see here. I clicked the link to see real pictures of Sarah Palin and her family. I am an independent voter and I feel that we need change in the white house, but the way Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are being treated is stomach churning. Media bias is out of control. Journalists were once taught to be impartial in their news stories, but obviously not anymore. Does anyone teach their children the meaning of the word respect anymore? I appreciate how Joe Biden is reffered to as Senator, but no one else in this opinion piece.

Objectively, one should take away issues of race, gender and those which should be of no concern to the Federalgovernment.Given the combined experience of the opposing candidates, the edge goes clearly to McCin/Palin.At worst, they provide a possible shake up of the good ol'boys in congress.

As a Brit who's spent lots of time doing business in many parts of the US over the last 12 years, I'm asking myself the same question I ask every US election year...Nevermind party, age, sex or race, are these really the best candidates for the job they could find out of the whole US adult population? I've met many brilliant, selfless, honest and hardworking Americans - so where are the brilliant, selfless, hardworking, honest American politicians?

Posted by: Mark Ankers | 9 Sep 2008 02:44:12

WOW!

There are some really stupid adults here!

There is no such thing as irrefutable evidence.
But I do apperciate peoples Irrefutable Hypothesis! cute wannabe pseudoscientists!

If you adults are going to try to spew rhetoric garbage from your lips and talk with big words to people who dont have the same volcabulary in an attempt to feel superior and intellegent, give it up.

You talk about things with no facts, only speculation and claim they are irrefutable, because this is what you want to believe then it is just nonsense.

Obama/biden cant guareentee anything, its semantics.

McCain and biden have the experence, then Palin.
Then there is Obama, who realistically, has none.

Its not Biden or Palen running for president, its McCain and Obama.

As far as her daughter, you can lead them to water...
Grow up people! as I stated here:

http://timesonline.typepad.com/uselections/2008/09/palin-and-suppo.html?cid=129729348#comments

"PS. abstanence, birth control, condoms, brains etc... none of it works if you dont use them.

Even the simplest of minds can figure that much out on there own I thought. Or at least the adults?"

I have known so many people who have been on birth control and had babys, even more that just plain forgot, and thats just the so called adults! and why is it that this boy couldnt have used a condom?
Can anyone prove that some form of birth control wasnt used, and that it failed? or was forgotten?

I seriously doubt in this day and age that there is a single person out there that hasnt had this happen to there family, or doesnt know someone that it has happened to.
And the day I hear a person say otherwise, will be the day I call them a social retard, and or a lier.

Is there anyone, anyone at all, that can provide any simbalence of an intellegent, reasonable arguement based on real tangible fact or evidence that can be supported past speculation on what people want to be the truth?

some I find automatically idiots just for the simple reason that they automatically tie themselves into being there identity as for a political party.

I am none of the three, I am an American, and I will go with whom ever [regardless of there party] is the best for our nation, period.

We are suppost to look up to you adults for leadership, when you all squabble like highschool dropouts? I think not!
[I too, can do the blanket statement thing with the best of them.]

Is Palin Hot? Yep! i havent heard too many people say otherwise, is that what she should be judged by? Nope!
Why is it that in America, good looks in a female is equated as being inferior?

So far, she has stood up and proven herself in my opinion as being the full package deal.
give her some room, she may surprize her critics, maybe even those whom who have there predisposed dispositions cemented.

Lets be real, she is an Alaskan hocky mom, who has stood up for what she believes in, and so what if she has handled fire arms? She is an Alaskan, and an American!

Last I checked, our founding fathers felt it important to create the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, second only to the first, freedom of speech.

Just because she might use a firearm, well, that just makes her American utilizing the Second Admendment right. So, is there some guiding light point to be made here past this? I think not.

I think the truth is, she is just like the rest of us, one of us, not a political elite, not rich by any stretch of the imagination. she has done what it takes to take care of her state the best way they felt is nessasary, who wouldnt? a bad governer i think?

To tell the truth, her story, well everywhere I look around America, I hear it everywhere, on every block, every neighborhood, every classroom, every church, everywhere.

Obamas? Not even close!

Give him a 10 more years, or a governers position, earn some experence, work out his issues with his real citizenship satisfactorally, as well as his involvement with many criminal factions/actions. Prove he isnt deserving to be punnished for all of his remarks towards us, and his wifes remarks as well, and then i think he may someday be a good leader, just not this decade.

"Dwight government is going to be in your life no matter who is in office. Who passed the patriot act? The Republicans. And i'm getting taxed out of my ass for a war that is not needed. What are you really voting for?"

Government will always be around and it should be around. But it should also be smaller, leaner and less socialistic.

My ideals are... a 15% flat tax on all (corporations and individuals, Bill Gates and his janitor alike), the complete privatization of education, healthcare and retirement, a reduction in public service jobs by 50% and government entitlement and welfare programs by 75%. I also wish to see rigorous enforcement of our immigration laws, a national right to work amendment (protecting the right of anyone to work anywhere regardless of association or disassociation with a labor union) and an end to diversity hiring. Oh, BTW, I also believe in a nationwide right to carry a concealed handgun and a strong national defense policy. As far as energy goes, I am for cheap and plentiful energy, not green but expensive energy -- more domestic oil and gas production and 500 new modular gas turbine modular helium (nuclear) reactors.

I don't care about religion, abortion, gay marriage, sex or race. I'll vote for those who promise to take this country towards the aforementioned direction, and against whomever leans towards more progressive (or higher) taxation, raising social spending, increasing entitlements, wealth redistribution or forced unionization. In short, I'll vote for (quoting Hillary) an "on your own" society over a Robin Hood Nanny state. Right now, there is simply not one policy or philosophical position coming out of the Obama camp which I agree with… not one, nothing, nadda, zilch.

Anyone that knows anything about Photo Editing can see that the one of her at the kitchen counter is the result of head switching. They even opened the blouse and tried to add some skin with their paintbrush. ;-) Oh, what one can do with PhotoSHop. ;-) The shadows behind her do not match the shadows of her profile and hairline.
Just thought I'd point that out, as this photo sure is making its rounds on the Internet.

Apart from the fact that some ancestors of mine who shared my surname were original 17th century Pilgrim Fathers, I have not a trace of American blood in me. But if I were a citizen of the U.S.A. I most certainly would support Sarah Palin.

But what beats me is that you Americans who are terrified of associating religion with politics, have the brass neck to espouse this monstrous thing called "PC", - which obliterates all distinctions and truth itself. Here you have a golden chance to elect to high office two honest, God-fearing politicians, - McCain and Palin. Would you rather have an atheist as President? - and not only an atheist but an extreme socialist, in Obama?

Yes, I'm a "Limey", burdened, like the rest of the British people, by a hopeless, dictatorial, neo-Marxist government, but in no more than 2 years hence we get the chance to boot out this ghastly creep Brown! And we will! But when I think of your absurd political system that gives so much room for crypto-Marxists like Obama to trample under foot your liberties (as Brown has done here), I despair! There is more freedom in Moscow, - and more Christianity, too.

("Sarah Palin & the Wasilla Assembly of God")

Part 2 is definitely scarier.

Everything about this smarmy, smug "God's Chosen" tone of this will make most thinking people scrutinize this person. She's the Armageddon-believing type who would justify war as God's will. We've seen that before, in this country and others. It's ugly.

Let's put off "the Rapture". Please?

John Small
Your surname summerises your thinking.

Irrefutable

Pahahahahahaha!

You obviously don't know the lack of foundations to your clearly religious convictions to drivel like that..

What was your issue that deluded you?... a Sunday School teacher that flicked your ear or made you learn to many moral verses?

Pahahahaha.

Sort out your perverted biased Small mind man.

I hope to see you in heaven.

Have you readthe Book of Enoch?

It predates the Bible as Evolutionists found out having first written it off as a false story made up by early Christians, according to their equally false methodolgy that you love... until they found versions 2200 years old plus that were copied clearly from earlier versions some place around the dead sea.
Jimmy your convenient lie won't help you when you are dead facing your much more intelligent designer. Grow up and get some science behind your prejudices. You Deluded old chap!

Posted by: D Liver | 11 Sep 2008 00:38:08

Wow how people react so differently to the same issue! Only one is true and we should not belabor to hide the truth just to serve our own personal interest and biases. Peace, love, hope, caring and sharing of prosperity should be all that matter! And politics should be the right vehicle to make these things happen fast. Only then,I can I see the relevance of elections. God bless us all!

"Has everyone forgotten about the past eight years? Do ALL Republicans make so much money that they don't need to worry about the economy?"

Yes, I seem to recall that we had 6.5 straight years of economic growth under Bush, all of this in the face of rising energy prices. Remember you Democrats calling this "the worst economy since Herbert Hoover?" Please. Bush hasn't been perfect on the economy by any stretch--our nation spent waaaay too much. But small businesses and corporations know who to back, and it's not Obama. You only have to listen to the Democrats babbling on about "the richest 2%" to realize they've completely swept sole-proprietorships, partnernships, and Title-S corporations under the rug. I'll take conservative economic principles over that nonsense anyday.

Posted by: CMartel2 | 11 Sep 2008 08:10:58

Just for the sake of accuracy, McCain had his 72nd birthday on Aug. 30, the day he announced Palin as VP candidate. He's not 73 years old.

You people who don't believe in creation will when you die

Posted by: Nancy | 12 Sep 2008 02:57:24

Yes... the rich is not paying their fair share rhetoric... let's get some facts straight shall we? The richest 5% of Americans pay 60% of all taxes. The top 10% pays 70%. The bottom 50% pays a whopping... wow.. 3% and the bottom 48% gets money back! Oh, and the evil corporations? They pay 35% to the feds and 7~12% to the state! That already looks like something straight out of the preachings of Karl Marx!!! And the lefties want to make it more so???

Think about it for a minute.

Why you should be penalized for making more money? Why do you pay a higher percentage rate if you make more? Is Bill Gates any more or less American than his Janitor? Why do you pay a higher percentage rate if you are an incorporated business entity? Why are we seeking to punish success and free enterprise, while rewarding failure and meekness? There is only one result that we can arrive at through such socialist measures that discourage success and reward failure. We'll will end up with a huge class of meek, unmotivated and incapable bums who are content with staying where they are so they can reap the benefits of economically segregated entitlements, benefits and wealth transfer. At the same time, you'll see the brightest and most capable individuals, companies and capital straining against the fragile tethers of patriotism as they ponder the thought of leaving the country.

Hey, every time I file that tax return and realize that I am working 5 months a year to pay the government. I yearn for the 12% FLAT TAX in Russia. And all else being equal why won't anyone want to bug out?

It is apparent that most of us here are socially and fiscally conservative; that we are unimpressed by the "change" that Balack Hussein Osama seeks to bring.

But no worries; you will likely see 321 Electoral College votes for McCain/Palin, to 217 electoral votes for Osama/Bitin' on the morning of November 5th. The popular vote will likely track those numbers very closely, too.

You see, anyone who has been listening to their neighbors over the past week knows that Sarah Barracuda has turned the tide in Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and even Michigan. Ohio and Florida were already solidly for McCain/Palin, but the shell-shocked liberal MSM refuses to say so.

The political/media industry has a vested interest in making this appear a horserace. Believe me, with Sarah on board, it's not.

And yes, libs, you'll be seeing her beautiful face for at least the next 12 years, so you can hiss and spit all you like. Get used to seeing conservative Americans with huge smiles on our faces, and your liberal friends throwing conniption fits because Sarah knocked your hat in the creek.

BO's done and can't recover..we, as democrats have to make sure we don't lose congress ,,,dump BO and let Hillary run

Posted by: connie k | 13 Sep 2008 05:41:02

I love Sarah. I was going to vote for McCain anyway after Hillary lost, but Sarah sealed the deal.

People keep mentioning things that aren't true about her. I've spent many many hours trying to get to the bottom of it, and I want to share some facts:

1. She never banned books.
2. She is pro-contraception (as a member of Feminists for Life), she thinks kids need contraceptive information in school. (she was against EXPLICIT sex ed ... can't blame her)
3. She has never tried to push her personal view of abortion as governor. She follows the law. She wants to work with those who are pro-choice to find ways to reduce abortions.
4. She is not homophobic. She says she has gay friends, and she vetoed a bill that would have banned benefits to gay couples. She does not support gay marriage, but she is not anti-gay rights.

5. She did not fire the state trooper who tasered her nephew and threatened to kill her father. She and her husband reported the trooper's actions to the state safety commissioner, as per protocol. She later fired the safety commissioner after he was ineffective in implmenting her goals for his department (lack of recruiting, etc.) She offered to place him in another position within the state, but he declined. She welcomes the investigation, and says she has nothing to hide.

6. She really did kill that Bridge to Nowhere project. Instead of putting the money where one of her Congress members had earmarked it, she put the funds to better use in general infrastructure projects (as was her right as governor). This ruffled some feathers within her state, the special interests. She isn't afraid of "breaking some China."

7. She stopped attending the Assembly of God church in 2002. She now attends a non-denominational Christian church with by all accounts a very tolerant pastor. She visited her old church recently and urged everyone to pray that the troops would be following God's will, not their own.

8. Her father was a science teacher so we can be quite certain she believes in evolution, not a 4,000 earth history.

She'll be great in Washington.

Oh, and about those per diems. Why isn't anyone asking Joe Biden about his $100 each way train rides everyday to Delaware?

Sick of the double standards!

Posted by: Nicole | 13 Sep 2008 05:50:23

Who made Joe Biden and Obama the gatekeeper to the white house ? I thought it was the Voters

Posted by: Bob | 13 Sep 2008 11:35:33

There are some curious notions held by some posters. Here's one, 'she's just the governor of a state. How can she be qualified. There have been 9 governors who have become president in the past one hundred years.

Then this:

"This is a sad day for educated women in the US - the only woman the Republican party could come up with is a bigoted, book banning, ex- beauty queen"

Ah, ha! She's bigoted?!?!?! In what way, her husband is a much Eskimo as Barak Obama is black. I'm not seeing bigotry here.

Book banning? This is an out and out lie perpetrated by panic stricken losers. Sarah Palin banned no books, not a single one (the ghost of Joseph Gobbles is smiling in hell).

She won't be able to stand up to Joe Biden? When Sarah and Joe are on the screen together, Sarah will look like Lady Liberty in the Harbor and Joseph Biden will look, as he always does, like he sleeps in a coffin and has dirt on the back of his neck.

Sarah Palin rooted out corruption in her own party and kicked the cr*p our of a lot tougher guys than Joe Biden, including the former incumbent Republican Governor, the heads of the biggest oil companies in the world, and former (because she MADE him the former) Republican Senator, Ted Stevens. Compared to these guys Joe Biden is like a guy hot pants standing on a street corner hustling punks. Not to mention the fact that he has one of least appealing personalities of any US politician, is a self-admitted plagiarizer (he swiped a line from, of all people, Neil Kinnock, and claimed, Loretta Lynn-like to be the son of a coal miner). A plagiarist and a liar. This is the guy who going to beat up on The Sarahcudda?

She is not a creationist and never sought to have creationism taught in public schools. What she did was to stand up for the rights of students who wanted to discuss it in the classroom but were silenced. The free and open expression of ideas and religious tolerance are two of the hallmarks of American political philosophy. They are sacrosanct and written into the Constitution to prevent the kind of tyrannical power the teacher was attempting to impose. Sarah was right to do so and the teacher who tried to suppress the student is guilty of a serious federal crime (a violation of the First Amendment).

As far as her looks go, its no fairer to mock her for being beautiful as it would be to mock, oh, lets say Nancy Pelosi, or Madeleine Albright for being too ugly to look at while you're eating.

Posted by: 57Nomad | 13 Sep 2008 23:07:43

Sarah Palin is like a breath of fresh air among all the rest. She may be our only chance to keep that racist, self-agenda seeking, unqualified egocentric Obama from causing a permananent racial divide across the nation. Blacks see him as their only chance to be in charge of the nation and will vote for him just because of his color. So sad. Wake up America; remember Watts and all the other attempts to put white america into chaos. If Obama were white would the blacks still vote for him??? Hell no!!

Posted by: marshel ivie | 14 Sep 2008 03:45:45

Always attacking the messenger, not the message. But that's what you do when you don't have a message yourself. A bunch of whining, crying liberals.

And you didn't nominate your own woman, so quit crying because the Republicans did. This will be a landslide - McCain/Palin. Just face the fact that radical liberals are the minority. Americans don't want your idiotic ideas. Prepare to sob yourselves to sleep on November 4.

I don't seem to recall Gordon Brown having travelled to the States prior to becoming PM

Posted by: steven A George | 14 Sep 2008 17:48:07

It is hard to decipher from this conversation if you in England understand how small the posts help by Sarah Palin have been. I live in a town the size of Wasilla and our mayor teaches the 5th grade. Unlike Palin he does believe in science but nevermind, his duties as mayor are scant. As to the governorship of Alaska, any single State of California Senate Districti, and there are 40 of them, represents more people than all of Alaska. I understand that we have said "anyone can be President of the United States," but we didn't just mean do it by lottery. A book banning, gun toting, itinerant college student with a career in sports broadcasting and homemaking may not be the balance Jefferson and Hamilton were seeking.

Posted by: McCoy | 14 Sep 2008 23:14:53

Someone asked who wrote Sarah Palin's speech. It was a named speechwriter who usually writes for Pres. Bush. What does that tell you about change?
Can some of these 'Southern' and 'Stupid' people not use this space for reminiscing or going on about their own finances or family situations?

Posted by: Susan W. | 18 Sep 2008 18:33:19

the reason people have different opinions on this is that some are stupider than others. i want obama to win just cos hes black. it makes no difference you see. all politicians are exactly the same corporate lying puppets. there is no point in voting because you only have two choices which are exactly the same. now, do you see?

Posted by: kris weston | 19 Sep 2008 00:01:15

When you mock one of us, you mock us all. Women who mock other women are part of the problem, not part of the solution. Sarah Palin mocks nobody. That is one of her excellent qualifications.
