Luciano Pavarotti
The death of celebrated operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti, at 71, has elicited tributes from far beyond the world of opera, such was the profile of a performer who enchanted football supporters and rock fans as much as he did the Glyndebourne set.
We’ve gathered together some of the most memorable Pavarotti performances – from solo operatic performances through masterclasses to pop collaborations - collected on YouTube, the video sharing site that is rapidly becoming our global collective memory.
1: Nessun Dorma. The aria which, more than any other, will be the piece for which Pavarotti will be best remembered. This performance was recorded in Paris, 1998:
2: The Three Tenors: La donna e mobile. The three greatest operatic tenors of their generation came together on several memorable occasions, doing much to broaden the appeal of opera.
3: Pavarotti and U2: Miss Sarajevo: Here Pavarotti demonstrates the populist streak which helped him become the most popular tenor of his time.
4: Pavarotti and James Brown: One of his unlikelier collaborations, but possessed of a curious alchemy which, once seen, is unforgettable:
5: Giving a masterclass to a young Italian tenor, and demonstrating that his effortless style was underpinned by considerable intelligent analysis.

I have been in love with Pavarotti for many years and I miss him so much. I am so thankful to have lived in his era. He was the very best we will ever know. One word describes him. Perfection!

Wonderful clips!!! I also found on YouTube the aria where the nine high Cs are sung, from Daughter of the Regiment. ( "Luciano Pavarotti Pour Mon Ame Fille Donizetti" is the name of the video) Thank you for all this on The Click. While you are on YouTube, listen to Roderick Dixon sing this also. Thank goodness for all you young people in opera. You make our hearts sing.

With both Luciano Pavarotti and James Brown in heaven, the heavenly choir is stronger than ever before. Rest in peace, dear maestro Pavarotti. The world of opera, classical music, and music of the world (who can forget those incomparable "Pavarotti & Friends" mashups?) was made more beautiful by your presence. Grazie!

This posting with these clips is such a tribute to Pavarotti! I really did not have any idea of the other singers and groups he paired with, but definitely thought of him as inspiring so many people to come and taste opera.

Tenor like Pavarotti comes around once in a hundred years.
He was truly the heir of the great Beniamino Gigli.

Never been able to listen to Pavarotti singing without a tear in my eye or the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. The most majestic and moving voice on earth.
